To Learn from a Shaman... or not to...

Lets say you knew spanish, and didn't have a job or family that you couldn't just leave. How many of you would leave to go to... say Peru... in a search for a tribe where you could learn the ways of a Shaman?
I would go, in fact, I want to go. I just don't know Spanish. That would be so amazing, just to leave for a year... or years... however long.

That's awesome. What type of things is he doing?
I wonder how you would even get involved in something like that... Just show up and be like "hey! teach me!"????
Only problem with being in Montana, is still so many of the things are illegal to consume.

tribal law, it's often much different than off the rez, there's much more you can do, just dont take it away from there.
she lived on the reservation in North Carolina most of her life, studied there and decided to make it her life, she's been to a few others and seems to really like it where she is now with the kootenai people.

Im headed to the Amazon to sit with shaman for a month or so two springs from now. After my recent trip, i know just how real the possibility of doing what your talking about is.
I really have no desire to "have one foot in the spirit realm, and one foot in the material" - nor to spend years abstaining and taking black tabacco infusions, and spending intense times alone communicating with plants in the jungle. (+ for the most part feel that white(or western) man isnt designed to do that anyways.
However, there is much to learn from self discipline, isolation, and plant medicine - and i would + will study them in a premature fashion probably several times throughout my life.
the ways of a good shaman, indiginous or commercial are extremely disciplined + dispite what you might think, the work load heavy.
I think alot of people that will post here romanticisize this notion.

I really would like to do something like this, but I don't even know how I would get started.

ha ha, ok one way is go to south america and then wander till you find a tribe then just camp out there and see what they do if your lucky enough the will realize your not gona move and might want to help you and let you join em tho i dont suggest that.
theres a reason why villages, tribes , societies in general have medicine men and differnt ones have differnt ones. differnt illnesses take differnt cures. It depends on what your illness really is. that will determine your fate. They say shaman arent afraid of death so if you really arnt you wouldnt have a problem going into the middle of now where to find some where.
i personally considered doing it but i realize i am where am cause this is where i should be and i have my peoples and more and more will come and go. i deffinatly have to say its hard uniting tribes and battling other medicine men cause they rarely see eye to eye. cause its differnt ways of life.
