colonization quest?
    #865267 - 09/05/02 09:22 AM (21 years, 7 months ago)

i innoc. my jars about 2 1/2 weeks ago, and they all seem to be doing great- no mold or anything, but i can see alot of water droplets forming on the walls of the inside of the jar.... is this normal? also- should i be able to birth the jars when all of the mycellum grows together? or should i wait awhile after to let it grow "thick"?

it is pretty common for water droplets to form inside the jar.  don't worry about that.

as for birthing, some people recommend birthing when they are 100% colonized, some people wait a week after they are 100% to make sure the middle is colonized.  if you are fruiting them as cakes, some people will expose the jars to light when they are 100% and then when pins start to form inside the jar they birth.  it's your call.
good luck

The water droplets are ok, excess water collects when the substrate colonizes, especially if you use an incubator. As for the birthing, if you plan on fruiting cakes then birth them a few days later, if you plan on making casings then I would wait another week to two weeks before breaking them up.
