whats wrong with this pup?
    #8651307 - 07/18/08 02:12 PM (15 years, 8 months ago)

Just recieved to pachanoi cuttings in the mail, and this specimen has a pup that is bright yellow with a few spots of green. Is it going to be okay? what would cause this loss of pigment?

possibly variegated(born that way and will stay that way), or lack of sunlight.

either way i think it should be fine after its stuck in the ground, watered, and given some sunlight. it would help with pics though.

dont give it direct sunlight just yet. it'd be better to put it in the shade outside until it gets some color, then put it in the sun.

but we can't tell you what's wrong with it if we can't see it. post a pic.

i doubt its variegated if its a pup from a normal green specimen

to the OP: dont give it any direct sunlight until it has regained its pigmentation, it will sunburn very easily...
almost certain that it is a side effect of being kept in the dark for too long...

I had ordered some San Pedro's a while back and I got one just like yours. Including a little pup like yours. I took the pup off before rooting the cutting. It will form new pups as soon as it roots. By leaving the pup on it may grow weird. The yellow is from lack of sunlight. In my opinion it's better just to take off the pup and let it form new healthy ones.

Her's a pic of what you can expect. Mine just started forming roots a couple moths ago. They grow back really quick.

Thats what i did. Mine was exactly like yours. Once you root your cutting the pups will start to form at the edges(Areolas). They seem to grow pretty quick. Here's a pic from July 7th when they first started to  sprout from 2 of the Areolas.

If you notice in the background of the 1st pic I also have a Bridgesii that I decapitated also. It's also forming a new pup. The Bridgessi tip has just started to re-root. I did the same with a Peruvianus that is also pupping. I had to cut them because of a real bad spider might attack that caused a black mold infection.

I had cacti produce white offsets in the dark before. they will turn green soon after receiving light.
