sterilizing perlite

if I had a outbreak of green mold in an FC I am wondering what would be an acceptable method for reusing the perlite while making sure the contams harbored within it are neutralized? pressure cook the perlite? boil it? how long? Thanks!

soak in diluted bleach water for an hour, rinse a dozen times(THOUROUGLY) then bake it for 20 minutes at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes with the oven door open a crack.

I am no expert, but I wouldn't even take a chance, or waste the time. Perlite is so cheap, if you can afford to, just use a new batch.
Just my .02 cents

If you really can't get another bag...Pressure cook it. Put all that you are going to need in a strainer, and get it wet. Drain it well, and then place it in jars. If you have a few dollars you can buy some oven bags which will hold a lot more.
But if you have the few dollars for it just buy another bag.

hahaha, my room mates got all pissed at me when i dumped a bunch of perlite in the garden until i explained to them how it would help the soil retain moisture, help drainage, etc.
my room maes are fucking ridiculous, you have to explain things very slowly and in very understandable/layman's terms for them o get anything into their noggins...

You could give it a rinse/soak in h2o2 (hydrogen peroxide) and it would be good as new. Try adding a slight amount of h2o2 in the perlite you use in the fruiting chamber. Not only will it help prevent contams but h2o2 is an oxidizer. This means that it will increase oxygen levels in your fruiting chamber which is a major pinning trigger.

if you have a problem with trich, you need to clean out your FC with some soap and water and toss that nasty pearlite. Pearlite is pretty cheap and it is worth not infecting more of your future fruits.

i had a small trich prob on a bulk and reused the perlite by soaking it in peroxide/water for 24 hours. then sprayed the chamber with a 50/50 water/peroxide before putting the cakes in, have had 0 problems with contams...... so far
edit: i did clean my chamber with a bleach/water spray while my perlite soaked

If it's been in a fruiting chamber with mold then it should be sterilized if you plan on using it again. Or you can just throw it out and spend $5 on a new bag.

h2o2 is only good for cobweb mold...Sometime. For anything else its pointless other than to help prevent molds. It will not get rid of molds that are already established.

You do need to rinse and drain your pearlite. Wash the FC with just plain soap and water, i have read RR say many times that a FC dosent have to be sterile.

But yea, toss it out right now. Anything puking green spores into your house is very bad for your future success. RR

yeah, right now i'm a little freaked out that there's some cobweb mold creeping across my perlite... it's only on 2 of my 7 fat blocks, but none of them are doing too well anyway... i might just botch the project and star anew, take them outside for spawn out there at least. just a bunch ot oystees anyway, it's just gotten too hot... perfect time for cube growin, which i'm hopin to get down on again soon...
the bag of perlite i have in my garage is enough for about 2 to 3 more grows, and i've already for used it for 3 of various types of mush... i got the bag for about $12... basically, this stuff is cheap as shit, just ditch the stuff you've used in FC that you think might be contam'd in your outside garden...
