Is this moisture normal?*UPDATE* re-colonized!
    #8634910 - 07/14/08 07:33 PM (15 years, 8 months ago)

Here we have a 10 gal monotub brf spawned with coir 10 days ago w/ temp ranges from 76-80. The moisture on top of the substrate looks like a fresh morning dew covering everything like a blanket. Would this be due to to much moisture content in the substrate or is this rather normal? Today is the 1st day I opened it up to check and see if it was done yet.... It isn't. I can still clearly see a bunch of brown coir underneath this "blanket".

when its fully colonized you could dab it up with a paper towel or if your going to case it dont worry about it because the casing material will soak it up.  like endepth stated you'll be fine though it happens all the time.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll just let it run it's course and fruit as normal without opening it up again.

Well, the substrate was definitely to wet and not colonized through the middle at all. The first small flush of about 200g wet is almost done. I tested to see how wet it was, and when I pushed it down it was still extremely moist, looked like I was pushing on a sponge..... My question now is should I even bother dunking?... Or just try to let it re-colonize as is? (I will be putting it back into incubation mode after the 1st flush for about a week.) Any help would be great.

And I think I answered my own question while typing this..... My idea: after flush, re-colonize, then dunk before 2nd flush begins. Sound good?

1st pick - 109g

Well.... Now we know that it is entirely possible to re-colonize a substrate after a flush. In my case the substrate was to wet but the top colonized just fine, but when I looked at the rest of the substrate, damn near nothing colonized underneath (about 40%)!! After the 1st flush I dunked the substrate for 3 hours then let it sit out for 4 hours. I then put it back in the monotub and placed a sheet of foil on top. Waited 10 days, checked it out and to my surprise, I found a nice healthy brick of myc in my tub. It has been in fruiting conditions for about 4 days now and it's working out just fine, pins all over.

So the next time you think you're toast after you start fruiting and you notice it's not colonized all the way, think again!
