thinking about doing the navy

I kind of want to do either SEALs or the nuclear program. I took their little test and scored a 98, so I know I can make nuke, but the adventure of being a SEAL is enticing. I just don't know if I'm tough enough. I'm only 135 lbs and not in shape at all. My father went through hell week in SEAL training and had some pretty rough stories. Keeping you awake for 5.5 days straight under constant exercise, beating you up while you lie on your back at the bottom of a pool, etc.
Anyone got any thoughts or experience with either of these programs?

Seals are the little kids of the SOF community. They need constant supervision and attention.
This is speaking from experience.
Green hats FTW. join the Army.

No experiences. Look up some video's about it on the net. I have seen a lot of the hell week vids on discovery, history and the military channel. It's intense to say the least. But i will tell you that if you become a seal just be sure to get a seal tat so no one ever fucks with you. lol. Good luck either way!

You should go for the nuke technician as it seems to be a more marketable skill once you get out (that is, assuming you don't make the Navy your career). Of course, if you make the SEALS (and don't wash out as most do) you'll have bragging rights for the rest of your life. And you'll know how to kill a man with a rolled up newspaper.

Seriously. Rambo said it pretty accurately in first blood, to paraphrase " I used to be in charge of million dollar equipment, now i can't even get a job washing cars."
SOF skills are only marketable to SOF and maybe contract work.
But,as I recall, you can't join the navy to be a seal. You have to have a specialty and then volunteer for BUDS. Basic Underwater Demolitions School.

It was mainly a joke. One of my best friends is a Marine though, I have a lot of a respect for him.

This is what you'll be looking for... http://www.sealchallenge.navy.mil/seal/contractinstructions.aspx The army really is the way to go though, unless you would rather go in the nuclear program. Dont forget though when you get out, you have to go to school all over again, allot of the navy nuclear power school is classified, so you're only going to get a couple of years worth of college credits at the most. A friend of mine had to learn that the hard way.
Good luck

I qualified with a 96 my first time when I was 17 and then went to do it again and got a 94 when I was 19. The wait is ten months and the bonus is thousands but I never went through with it. Your skills are useless outside the military. I can't tell you how true that is. When you get out you will go through years of civilian college to get back your position and respect you had with the military. The positive side is wicked bonuses to resign when your tour is up. Be a Mycologist!, lol.
