2 Newbie Questions

Im new to this and about to try the PF Tek. I bought 12 half pint jelly jars. They are tapered so the cakes can fall out, but seem a little taller than ones I saw in a YouTube video, which made flatter disc shaped cakes. I just bought some flatter 4 ounce (1/4 pint) jelly jars that would make a more disc shaped cake instead of cylindrical cakes.
My question is, does it matter if my cakes come out taller cylindrical 8 ounce (1/2 pint) or flatter disc shaped 4 ounce (1/4 pint)?
Also, are there any dangers in fruiting different species in the same terrarium?

Us the 8 oz jars and take the other ones back. The jelly jars are fine if you can't find the wide mouth 8 oz.
There is no problem fruiting different strains in the same terrarium, if that's what you meant. I don't know enough about other species to answer your actual question.
Good luck.

The short wide mouths are supposed to be a better shape for water holding/dunking, and fruit growing purposes. The taller wide mouths will work though. If you have the 'stubbies' I'd use them and take the others back. The stubbies are also usable for agar work because of their shallowness.

The 1/4 pint ones will finish faster, but give you a reduced yield since they're, well, half the size. The ones you have will work absolutely fine - they're commonly used and they're also the only ones I've ever been able to find around me. Decide what you care about more, extra speed or extra yield, and then make your choice.

Do you mean different strains, like B+ and Golden Teacher, or different species, like p. cubensis and p.cyanescens?
If you meant strains, then there is absolutely no problem. All cubes have the exact same environmental needs and coexist without a problem. Spore companies often give growth parameters for each strain they carry, but if you look closely you'll see that every one is exactly the same. Aside from a few strains with unique quirks (Redspore, Penis Envy, Koh's), little consistent difference is widely reported between strains. Even the quirky ones grow in the same environment though.
If you meant species, then it depends on the species. Some like it hotter or colder than others, but many are similar.

4oz jars will not dissapoint. This is my very first grow right here
Like an idiot i put it in tupperware which hindered growth. Got even more off the 2nd flush when i just used a jar lid. 4ozers take half the time to colonize. After dunking/rolling it, put it in a lid with wet verm around it because small cakes like that can lose moisture quicker than half pints. An eigth dry is not uncommon for meh 4ozers. The one in that pic just did 2 dry grams.

I agree! Good catch, my bad.
I worded that part poorly. They will produce less than a 8oz since they have half the food and water stored. The yield won't, however, be only half that of an 8 oz, it will actually be much closer to that of the 8 oz. Surface area affects yield too, and the surface area of a 4 oz is more than half that of a 8oz. Rolled cakes also do an excellent job of absorbing water from every misting, so a reduced water reservoir is not as limiting as it looks.
An 8oz cake still beats a 4oz yield-wise, but not by nearly as great a margin as I probably made it seem. (as your sexy picture proves)

well 4oz jars just colonize much faster than 1/2 pints, so if Im just doin cakes its gonna be a 4 oz., cakes aren't really made for big yields anyway. 4ozers are really good for crumble and casing too, because you can have a set of them ready a week sooner than a set of 1/2pints.

Thank you all for being so helpful... and yes, I did mean Strain instead of Species.
