Thursday night, The Tri-County Drug Task Force served three search warrants at Jay County residences after developing investigations concluded there may be active meth labs at each location.

The search warrants were served at 10:00 p.m. at 1256 S. C.R. 825 W. Redkey, Indiana, 247 E. Washington St. Dunkirk, Indiana and 3465 S. S.R. 1 Redkey, Indiana.

Officers found an active meth lab at the Dunkirk address and illegal drugs at the other addresses.

Brian A. Montgomery, 43, of 247 E. Washington St. Dunkirk, Indiana was arrested and preliminary charged with Manufacturing methamphetamine, class "B" felony, Possession of methamphetamine, class "D" felony, and Maintaining a common nuisance, class "D" felony

Mark W. Justice, 27, of 508 W. Cherry St. Hartford City, Indiana, was charged with Manufacturing methamphetamine, class "B" felony and Visiting a common nuisance, class "B" misdemeanor.

Brian V. Franklin, 28, of 3465 S. S.R. 1 Redkey, Indiana was charged with Possession of marijuana, class "A" misdemeanor.

Gary D. Brewster, 39, 1256 S. C.R. 825 W. Redkey, Indiana was charged with Possession of methamphetamine, class "D" felony.

Jay County Sheriff Ray Newton said, "The methamphetamine problem in Jay County is a top priority for law enforcement, there were ten (10) meth labs located in our county in 2007. We are committed to rid our community of this problem."

Methamphetamine, (crank or speed as it is called on the street) is a powerful and highly addictive stimulant, which causes brain damage. The usual source of methamphetamines is from crude clandestine laboratories (meth labs) operated in motel rooms, vehicles, woods, outbuildings and homes using products readily available in hardware, home supply, drug stores or discount stores.

The public is instrumental in locating many of the methamphetamine labs and anyone with information concerning illegal drug activity is encouraged to contact law enforcement.
