Wow, I've never seen a scientist moved to tears.
So the left and right brains do function differently. Whoever said that's been debunked is wrong.
Thanks for sharing that.

it would seem only logical then that mushrooms would affect the right side of the brain more than the left. i wonder if that is true, or if it has ever been examined.
what she described seemed a lot like an ego death, minus some semantics. and when she was talking about the phone call to her office, it reminded me of ordering pizza hut every time i trip, lol.
good video

I have never seen anyone say it was debunked, but for what it is worth, her descriptions seem to match up with the Wiki description.... Minus the "NOW" vs "Past & Future" descriptions she gave, and a few other little details....
From Wiki: Brain Hemispheres
Left brain functions sequential analytical verbal logical linear algorithmic processing mathematics: perception of counting/measurement present and past language: grammar/words, pattern perception, literal
Right brain functions simultaneous holistic imagistic intuitive holistical algorithmic processing mathematics: perception of shapes/motions present and future language: intonation/emphasis, prosody, pragmatic, contextual

She was already versed in Eastern Spiritual talk, otherwise I doubt she would have recognized or interpreted the experience as she did. Maybe similarly. Anyways, what a beautiful presentation! So much insight.

excellent vid thanks for posting.
has anyone heard of split-brain syndrome?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Split_brain wikipedia doesn't say too much about it but it's pretty interesting. essentially it occurs when your left and right brains cannot connect with each other and creates some strange phenomena.

Yeah, it used to be purposefully given to people by cutting the corpus collosum, which connects the two hemispheres. They would do this to keep epilepsy from spreading over to the other side. Then they started finding undesirable results.

By having a stroke....
She said that the possibility existed because she had experienced it thru the stroke, but didn't really say that she could do it now....

I'll venture to guess that by gaining concentration through meditation, then using it to solely think about things like compassion, union, etc., and not think about the past, future, and other linear thought-forms, that you retrain the mind, habits, and brain to focus on right-brain activities. By willingly, I don't think she meant immediately.

My question is: if we were able to switch at will how many of us would switch back?

Maybe that's the effect of what happens when we dream and/or daydream....

it wouldn't be possible because we need to use the left side of the brain to go to the right and realize we are in the right. Its logic.

I never read the book but a friend of mine did and they gave me a pretty good run through of what Jayne's theory was and I thought it made a lot of sense. Makes me wanna go pick the book up myself now... thanks for the reminder.

just install a pair of momentary switches between the two hemispheres.
