Amphetamine Psyche
    #8617437 - 07/10/08 01:05 PM (15 years, 9 months ago)

I know there is a lot of bad blood going on between tweakers and their hippy rivals, and I really don't want to get into that aspect of their relationship much. I was just doing a poll in ODD to find out the regular price of adderall and I was wondering, have any of you had experience with amphetamines which has changed your life for the better in some way? Have you ever felt it added to your life in any way that it didn't also take away from? From the tweakers I have known they all seem to have a really demented dark side, but what do you guys think?

Interesting. My best male friend claims this experience. I know him very well and I saw him go through it and I believe it's true.

He has influenced my path greatly as a neo- shamanic mentor. There is almost nothing he hasn't used as far as I know. He gains benefit from all of it.

I think some drugs, like all poisons, are more dangerous to the psyche.  I never had a lot of tweaker friends--I eschew adrenaline junkies--but I was engaged to one for a short time after her addiction cycle was broken.

Turns out, meth addiction wasn't her only problem.  I think some people can learn from any mistake while others cannot learn from any.

MDMC sent me straight to mental hell once.  I had maybe somewhere between 300-500 mgs.  Don't know for sure.  Veil fell down like a sheet.

I don't really like amphetamines, I've never had an experience with them that ended well in any sense of the word; only a dirty feeling that I wanted to get away from.

Of course, that's just me. I believe there's spiritual value of some kind in every aspect of creation, including hard uppers. It's just not my bag personally.

I am sure there are people that can gain from the experience....
I have never had the chance, and I am curious, but I am also a little leery....
Having heard a few first hand stories of it's alluring potential for addiction, I am still leery but curious....

I could see some spiritual value being gained from visions after sleep deprivation caused by the amphetamines, but as for something being gained from the amphetamines themselves... might as well go do some lines for a mystical revelation.

"New Amphetamine Shriek"
The Fugs (Stampfel and Weber)
Transcribed by Al Broder

(Bluegrass like)

  (C)                    (F)
I don't have a bedtime, I don't need to come.
    (G)                (F)      (C)
For I have become an am-phetamine bum.
                                (F)
If you don't like sleeping, and don't want to screw,
    (G)                        (F)      (C)
Then you should take lots of am-phetamine too.

(CHORUS:)
(C)                        (F)
Gabba gabba gabba gabba(x2) fet fet feta-mine
(G)                    (F)          (C)
gabba gabba gabba gabba(x2) fet fet feta-mine
                        (F)
Gabba gabba gabba gabba(x2) fet fet feta-mine
(G)                    (F)          (C)
gabba gabba gabba gabba(x2) fet fet feta-mine

I'm always excited, I just love to walk.
My jaws keep on turning and churning out talk.
I love to draw pictures in layers and layers
and say the words backwards, when I say my prayers!

(chorus)

These lemules (?) and games, they make life so sweet.
I can walk down streets without moving my feet.
My brain works so fleet, I can outwit the heat.
And I never feel beat, and I don't need to eat!

(chorus)

There's nine bouncing people, in one little room.
The vectors are threading eternity's loom.
It's not bad for brain cells, the doctors proclaim.
It's almost as safe as that dull cocaine!

(chorus)

Adderall has showed me that I can easily do well in school and get good grades and shit, but I hate Adderall because it makes it too easy.  I now know I have the capability, but it's laziness that kills me.  These days, I don't rely on Adderall as much.  I try to get by on my own for the most part.

So yes, Adderall has made a positive difference in my life.  It would have a negative impact if I relied on it to do everything.

Also, the dosages I take are in the range of the usual prescribed dosages.  I've never and do not desire to experience amphetamines at recreational dosages.

a few people can make great use of it
a few people can make terrible use of it.
i don't think speed should be illegal or adderal cost so much.
have not tasted that kind of candy in over 30 years.
don't really need to now.
but I did.

I learned an entire semester of calculus in 19 straight hours of studying on physician-prescribed Dexedrine. After sleeping for 10 or 12 hours following the exam, I'm pretty sure I couldn't remember Delta X/Delta Y anything, but I passed the course.

That summer, my friend Kenny and I drove from NJ to Maine (Mt. Desert Island?) on the left-over Dex. When we set up camp, I had an experience that Tom Wolff wrote about in The Electric Acid Kool-Aid Test. He said that with speed and cannabis, sometimes you could 'prop open the psychedelic door' (his metaphor). We smoked some hash or grass to unwind from 10 hours of driving, and Kenny crashed in the tent while I collected firewood. As I was reaching for a stick, I spied a box turtle under the tree and reached out to pick it up by its shell. In the blink of an eye, it suddenly was a big bullfrog, from which I involuntarily recoiled. I turned over my shoulder to shout out to Kenny but before I could say a word, there were bullfrogs all over the ground! I yelled to a half-asleep friend: "Hey Kenny, come out here, there's bullfrogs all over the place!" He annoyingly groaned something and didn't emerge from the tent, but in the next blink of an eye, all the bullfrogs were clumps of dark crab grass, and the turtle-bullfrog - a round moss-covered rock! Just a little story I thought I'd share .

I have heard a lot about the delusions that can come with speed. I can understand how that sort of experience would change a person to become more paranoid and aggressive.

Just a little story I thought I'd share

Crazy.  Once with an ex-girlfriend I ate some really strong Ecstasy...  I kept looking at her in that rolling-I-feel-so-goooood state.  Super cute.  But it kept looking like she had a head band and glasses on, which she didn't.  Then I sat outside on a pic-nic table and I saw a dog barking, and I swear I heard it...  Turned out to be a big white park garbage can.  Then in my car there were other people in there...  Sitting and talking and moving around.  I thought somebody had come with us or shown up or something.  When I thought I could drive home...  A fuckin horse was walking across the road and I tapped my breaks and it disappeared.  Then animals were running along side my car and melting into the reflections.  I wonder if it was just MDMA or something more.  Crazy night.  Fun though, for sure.  Except we did that I love you thing on E...  Questionable idea.

Desoxyn - pharmaceutical methamphetamine - comes with a warning about addiction and paranoid psychosis. Dexedrine is comparatively mild. My physician at the time told me not wo worry about an OD (I got 30 tablets), but my use was very conservative. That hallucinatory experience was memorable, seeing as it happened in the summer of 1972!
