150 watt, line 6low down LD150 is what  I play on, love the sound. If you want a lot of power for band play and such if you're playing shows and getting serious about it mesa is the way go though..my friend who also plays and is touring eastern canada in august just bought 2 600 watt cabs and a 600 watt head, all mesa stuff.

But yea...what i've got is great for pretty much everything other than dedicated play, i'd look into it =D. What styles specifically are you into?

Another thing, make sure not to buy just any old amp, if you get yourself a guitar amp like I first did, the low bass frequencies aren't normal so they can screw everything up. =D.

Hah, a bass on a guiatr amp would be horrendous

I dunno, I just want to practice

I've no musical expeirence whatsoever and I bought an amp on a whim, I'll try taking it stats down and see what the people say

Yea, if you go to the line 6 website and you want something a little less powerful than the 150 watt, there is a 45 and a 100 watt they sell I believe. Great sound, loud , several settings for tone, the usual adjustables and some basic fx.

fuck that, if you're just starting out there's absolutely no need to drop 400 bucks on an amp.

If you're just playing in your room and practicing by yourself, buy a practice amp.  You can find them as cheap as 50 bucks.  Crate makes a decent amp for a good price, it's what i used when i practiced by myself.  If you're expecting to gig with it, you will need something more powerful.

But if i were you and just starting out, i'd hit up some local music shops and see if they have any used equipment.  Often times you can find old floor models for 50% off their listed price.

Yah, I think I'll just get a practice amp

I do want to puruse this, and though I realize a solid amp would be a better investment, a practice amp is more practical, and I could look back on it and think 'awww'

Its not good to hook a bass into a guitar amp. I allways heard it will ruin the speakers. or the head or somethin.

That's what they say, but in my experience it would take more than a few years of playing to really ruin it/them (the speaker(s)).  Also, bass amps are more about volume while guitar amps do a better job of molding a unique tone.

And as far as sound goes, basses don't generally sound good clean through smaller guitar amps (or smaller bass amps for that matter), but with fuzz they sound great.  I play more of the Fender basses, which have more treble than other basses, which is what a guitar amp is good for.  It all depends on the style.

I'd disagree...my dad's friend owns a music studio and sell equipment, hes been playing bass for 34 years, he told me to return the guitar amp asap, to be honest though, bass doesn't need hundreds of funky fx to sound good. Make the playing speak, not how much distortion or fx or what have you you have.

Then again, thats merely my 2 cents.

he disagrees.  His dads friend owns a music studio.  His dads friend sells equipment.  His dads friend has played the bass for 34 years.  His dads friend told him to return the guitar amp asap (as soon as possible).

Anyway, like I said, basses through guitar amps get a different sound, it might be detrimental to the amp in the long run, but it's all about personal preference.

most likely because the driver used on a guitar amp is different then one on a bass amp.

Sorry, I'd mentioned in my first post I'd purchased a guitar amp and played bass through it before returning it. That's the amp I was referring to.
