How do you treat your allergies? Need Help!

Stay with me on this, shroomers, i know it's long....So I'm allergic to cats, dogs, birds, horses, etc. I'm also allergic to dust mites, various grasses and pollen bothers me. I currently live with my gf who has 4 cats and one dog. For the most part, I've developed a decent immunity, but sometimes it all comes crashing down. With spring and summer now, my immune system is fucked. If the pollen in the air doesn't get me, it's the cats. I can't even wake up lately without an attack, and sometimes in the middle of the night I just wake up sneezing violently, it's miserable. I also get asthmatic
Our room we try to keep very clean, only allow the dog in there (separation anxiety), have mite covers over the bed and pillows. It's a small place, so we vacuum 2-3 times a week, and the cats have a door that during the day 2 of them stay outside. I work at home 3 days out of the week, so that just makes it way worse.
I take a herbal allergy pill w/ Stinging Nettle, L-Histodine, Queretin and Bromelain extract, try to eat real healthy, avoid most dairy except cheese...mmmm..cheese., and lately have been taking Claritan daily to no avail. Sometimes I think the Claritan is counter productive...
*Sneeze* So how do you treat your allergies? Got any tips?

That's funny, I live with my boyfriend and his 4 cats and 1 dog. I am very allergic to cats so I've been taking "ProVex-Plus". I order it from the Melaleuca Company. It has 50 mg Citrus Bioflavonoids, 30 mg Dried Grape Skin Extract, 25 mg Dried Grape Seed Extract, 10mg Dried Ginkgo Biloba Extract, and 10 mg Dried Bilberry Extract. Talk about Antioxidants! It works wonders for me.

It's an even greater coincidence because my mom used to be a Melaleuca Company rep., doing wine, cheese, and melaleuca nights w/ housewives and working women. My whole life I had to brush my teeth using their toothpaste which I hated. I wonder if my mother still gets a discount.
Anyways, that sounds like an awesome product, and I'm going to look into getting it for myself. Thank you!

My allergies when I was a kid were horrible. I went to the doctor all the time, was on various meds, sick for a week, then healthy for 3, then sick as shit for another week during the fall and spring every year. Repeated sinus infections, they wanted to cauterize my sinuses. Last fall I realized that every time I smoked pot, my sinuses got real stuffed up and I couldn't breathe through my nose, especially when I laid down. Ever since I stopped smoking pot, my allergies have disappeared. I quit smoking cigs too, and that helped slightly also.
Edit- recently I've also started eating better, no soda, no fast food, more fresh veggies and fruits, less red meat. That seems to help.

There is a company called reliv that makes nutritional products and I am willing to bet that if you were on one of their shakes called classic, you would be pretty much allergy free. I used to have quite a bit of allergies and I got an that stuff and I am nearly allergy free now and have been for a few years now.I have even been off of the product for years now. The company is similar to melaluca in the way that you need to find a distributor but you might be able to find them from the website (google it(reliv)). Peace and best of luck to you.

Yeah, i stopped smoking pot a while back and it has helped with some congestion, but my back pain suffers as a result. I follow pretty good dietary guidelines, but exercising sucks when breathing is troublesome, not to mention shitty energy levels from weakened immune.
I might to try and hook up w/ a Reliv distributor..That's pretty cool. I am always skeptical of refined nutrition drinks, but if it helps I'll go for it. Do you know if there is any other comparable products like that at health food wellness stores, or are they unique in their quality?

In the past I've used Claritin, Allegra, and Zyrtec. They all worked great... For a little while, then they just stopped working.
Now I'm on Singular. It is expensive, but it works great. Also probably the best prescription allergy drug available for asthmatics.

Yeah, for me Flonase works for seasonal, but doesn't do much for the cats. It also seemed to aggravate my sinuses and give me headaches. I was taking Singular and paying a good price for it, but after it came under scrutiny for links to depression and suicide, I stopped taking it. Prescription drugs are just so fucked. I try not to take them if possible. I was taking Advair for asthma, and that shit was so nasty. Now, I take an activated mushroom mycelium pill that opens the pathways in the lungs...mycomedicinals FTW

I can't speaking for myself as I have no known allergies but my family members have some severe allergies. Speaking for pollens and outdoot airborne allergies, buying RAW unpasteurized honey from your local area with make your more immune to these allergies. Speaking on behalf of my family members, they notice a great deal of different after eating a local raw honey. This however may not work for everyone and certainly not animal allergies. Raw honey is a bit on the expensive side, but damn does it taste good.

Yeah, I purchase local wildflower honey from the co-op at 10 bucks a pint, and it's so tasty. Every morning I sweeten my tea, coffee, oatmeal, or put it on a whole wheat English muffin. I think it does help, and I'll have to use more now often. Thanks for the advice, though.

Okay, I am very very allergic to cats. Apparently my family doesn't care because over the years they've accrued four of the little beasties. I've tried so many things until I finally found the thing that works for me.
Here's what you do:
Boil 2 cups of water Add 2 tbsp. of raw Apple Cider Vinegar Add 1/8 tsp. of baking soda Add a bit of Organic cayenne pepper (about 5 shakes or so)
Drink in an empty stomach first thing in the morning. That would make me COMPLETELY allergy-free for the ENTIRE day. Nothing ever even came close to providing the relief that this gave me. It might take you a while to get used to the taste, and maybe you should use less cayenne pepper at first if you're not used to really spicy stuff.
But yeah, give this a shot. At most the ingredients will run you $10 and will last for a LONG time.

My grandparents bought a 5 gallon bucket full of raw honey from a farmer in Tennessee for $100. They give me a gallon or so at a time. It doesn't do anything for local allergies here as I live in Indiana. But what I find interesting is the variance in taste, smell, and color from one region to the next. This honey is a very dark amber color, very strong in taste where the local raw honey here is a very light and mellow. Both equally good but very different. No less, honey's medicinal qualities date back to the Egyptians and Aztecs so I think it's a very credible source.
My cousin, who I was referring to about the bad allergies in the family, also says that taking Claritan is counter productive. He tells me OTC allergy meds make him loopy and tired to the point he can't work. My step dad takes the OTC zyrtec and he says it works wonders with no noticeable side effects. I've also heard acupuncture works really well if your willing to give it a chance.

This is a very good point that I forget to mention. I have heard very good things about the use of raw Apple Cider Vinegar. In fact, my grandparents make a glass with 2 tbsp. with warm water and raw honey mixed together. They had a doctor tell them about this 50+ years ago and they have done it every since. But beyond allergies, Apple Cider Vinegar has many many great health benefits and has been labeled by some as a miracle cure for many ailments including indigestion, stomach aches, soar throats, and acid reflux. I use it, not every day, but I recommend it everyone when the topic arises. But like he said, get RAW ACV.

Haha, yes, I meant to mention all the other health benefits that come along with this, but forgot to in my actual post.
