Gyms in Idaho?
    #8545978 - 06/20/08 11:20 PM (15 years, 8 months ago)

Does anyone have any experience with any active gym species in this state. The index says its a good state for gyms. Ive heard that the potency varies in certain locations and was wondering if anyone knows about the potency in Idaho. Want to go trekkin for some if its worth it. Subbs are getting boring..... j/k :P

So don't bother?? The index mentions a couple psilocybe species too. Maybe I'll look into those.

Psilocybe fimetaria
Psilocybe pelliculosa
Psilocybe silvatica

These any good?

And yeah actives in Idaho are a myth
just kidding

They're very rare from my experience so far.

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus.
All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the
octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV.
But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns.
Also he got a race car.
Is any of this getting through to you?

You referring to gyms? I've found quite a few subbs. Did a little test and they are definitely active. I may be stuck with subbs only, which is fine. I just don't want to miss out on anything else that's out there. May be going to law school in Eugene in 09. Will definitely be expanding my species search if it happens.

Here is a link to the various active mushrooms by state starting on page 218.

This thread has been closed.

Reason:

3. Do not ask what mushrooms can be found growing in your state or immediate area.
This information is easily found in the Mushroom Hunting FAQ and/or has been posted at least once elsewhere on the net. Also see this document: http://www.shroomery.org/8461/Which-mushrooms-grow-wild-in-my-area

For an area with as many diverse mushroom species as Idaho, it is surprisingly devoid of actives.  And not for lack of looking - The North American Mycological Association - has its annual foray coming up in Mccall, Idaho on Sep 4 - 7 of this year, and has had it in Idaho several times in the past.  They make a big list of all the species they can possibly find, visiting as many habitats as possible.  You should really try to go, mushroom collectors from all over north america will gather there for the annual massive foray.  It will be interesting to see if any actives make it to the species list this year.

The last time NAMA did a foray in Idaho was in 1986, and they recorded 302 species on the species list.  The only possible actives I see are Gymnopilus spectabilis  and Panaeolus sphinctrinus.

The 1966 NAMA foray in Idaho has a  species list that includes Psilocybe strictipes and Psilocybe caerulipes.  I consider the latter find doubtful but maybe there is something undiscovered out there that really resembles it.

The 1968 list, also in Idaho has:

Gymnopilus junonitus
Gymnopilus penetrans
Gymnopilus picreus
Gymnopilus terrestria
Gymnopilus ventricosipes
Panaeolus campanulatus

Here is a link to all the NAMA foray species lists.

I wasn't asking what species grew in my area Alan. I was actually referring to the species on the index, and asking if any were worth picking as far as potency.

I've seen similar lists. Just wondering if Idaho gyms are any good as far as potency?
