mushrooms, flowers, and a bird of prey

This will be a great year for chanterelles! Primordia are all over the forest floor under the leaf litter, it's impossible to know if you are stepping on them.

I always go mushroom hunting just a bit too late in the day and end up having to walk in the dark... so I snapped a few flower pictures with a very low flash setting, giving them the appearance of floating in a black void.

The last Photo is of an owl... i know the image quality is low but i couldn't help that... The owl followed me along a trail, it would perch in a tree above me and just stair downward. As i would make my way down the trail it would move along as well -- it was strange.

I wonder if perhaps the owl was young and curious??? It made little crying noises that sounded just like a puppy! In fact, when I first heard it I thought perhaps it was a baby coyote.

Beautiful photos George.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about Chanterelles.  If the rain keeps up and the wind keeps down, this year should be a bumper crop.

Awesome pics, I especially like the ones that were taken after the sun went down.  I really like the way the flowers look.  I am using the pic of the moon as a desktop background.

Is the Volvariella bombycina?  Any good?

Volvariella bombycina is in there... i haven't eaten them as i want to do microscopy and prepare slides for a presentation tomorrow night,

Do you see the Russula subfoeten like mushrooms? Man they really do smell like maraschino cherries and man they are really hot when fresh. I'm almost tempted to try cooking up a small batch despite all the warnings.
