A nice Glovebox

So here is my glove box.
It was originally designed to be a positive pressure box but after further research I plan on using it more like a hybrid. Allow me to explain...
First I will turn on the fan and let it sit for a few minutes
Then
Open the Lid
At this time i will spray the inside of the box with lysol and leave lid open. The box is air tight all oppenings sealed with silicone or ductape and the lids lined with weather stripping. Therefore when the fan is left on and the lid open air pours out of the lid. The fan is a 65 CFM fan from radioshack and is pretty heavy duty for its size the filter is a filtrete 1700 sealed into some parts from the HVAC section in HD.
I will then put on sterile gloves and insert sterile items into the box if any item is not sterile i will wipe down with alcohol before putting into the box.
After everything is loaded up i will close the lid, turn off the fan, and get to work. Anytime I may need to add or remove things from the box i will ensure all petri dishes are wrapped up then turn on the fan before opening the lid then turn back off after closing.
My plan is to do agar work in the box and use it to incubate my petri dishes by leaving a space heater near the box set on about 80.
Well let me know what you guys think any questions, comments, or criticism is welcome and appreciated.

My understanding is that the point of a glovebox is to be still air. Keep things as calm as possible so no contaminates are flowing around in the air. I know you have a filter on there and spray it out but it seems like it would just be better to leave it be, load your things, give a second for the dust to settle, and carefully get to work.

It's still a cool setup. Some of us just love to tinker, and there's nothing wrong with it at all!

Yeah see like i said in my original post. After further research I decided that a still air box is more of what i need as opposed to the pos pressure that i built, so im using it as a hybrid. I will only implement the fan and the positive pressure when loading the box. I feel this is getting the best of both builds as i have the lid open and the fan running air will not enter the box, but once i close the lid i will turn off the fan so i dont have any movement in the box. IMO this should work and again i achieve the best from both setups.

I'll buy that logic. The only thing is that you want to give the air time to settle before you get to work. I generally stand in front of my box for a minute or so while everything calms down.

Wow, that's a fancy setup. Is that really necessary? I didn't even use a glovebox my first time and they turned out great.

I have never used a glove box. I guess I dont see a need for it, I clean up my areas very well.
:P
I must say though, it looks good!

Mine was made with an airtight box. Rubber washing up gloves (thin nitrile) duct-taped to the box. It has a filter disc to allow the pressure from your hands expanding the gloves to push air out. I have a small spray with alcohol, this goes inside the box with all my stuff, including paper towels.
I close it all up and put my hands in, now I spray and wipe everything inside the box down with alcohol (while sealed). I then take my hands out and leave it to settle, and for alcohol to evaporate.

Allright well you were right at the time you posted that, I had not. But I just had my first experience working with agar. And it was a failure . However, Im not sure it was the Box. But this is something that now requires a new thread which i am going to type now, may take a bit but it'll be up within an hour.

There's nothing wrong with experimenting! You got the Ideas, the money, the resources, go on with your bad self! You'll learn what works, what doesn't work. Then you'll look back at these threads and realize who gave you good advice from personal experience, and who gave you advice from some other thread they read. Either way, there is nothing better than personal experience. From MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, A glove box is best from a "still" air perspective. You can still get creative though. This is a cool one that I still use when I do agar work. Everything cost like about 30.00 at Home Depot.
