time-lapse cameras?

Just curious to see if anyone know anything about them. I'd like to catch a local animal abuser acting out.
Something that takes a picture like every few minutes would be good, don't need great quality, doesn't need a large amount of memory, I could review it on a daily basis or so.
Probably will be too expensive and I won't be able to do it, but I need to do something..

Is this for inhouse or outdoor? I know wildlife biologists use motion triggered cameras to take a rapid succession of snap shots of tigers and the like. But this is to monitor the actions of a fellow human being, right? So it needs to be discreet. Hidden Surveillance? Hmmmmmm..... That could possibly cross the line, bro. You gotta ask yourself... how certain are you that this person is really committing these acts? And what would you plan to do with evidence obtained from the footage anyway? Haha, this reminds me of when I used to play cops and robbers as a kid. Never did have a big brother, though.

It would be fixed outside aiming at the yard that the dog has never ventured beyond.
I also thought it might be crossing the line, but I just wish I could do something about it. Abuse isn't the issue, however, neglect is. And it probably isn't to the extent that some organization could legally intervene, because It looks to be of healthy weight (thought it clearly has a thick, fluffy coat that doesn't make laying in the shadeless sun burnt dirt yard any better for that animal).
I offered any amount of money in the most polite way I could, which inherently is condescending in a way I suppose, but I tried and was refused anyway. I can't imagine why. I haven't ever actually seen a human being interact with the animal..
Edit: Sorry, I did say animal abuser in my original post. I've been making verbal mistakes a lot lately.
P.S. It doesn't help that I'm in love with the dog. I'll just hope that despite all of the evidence, things aren't as they seem.

They make something called a bear camera hunters put at salt licks to catch their pray on film before they waste time waiting out a hunt. Its a cammoflaged- motion activated camera that snaps shots when things move in front of it. IT would be ironic to use one in catching an animal abuser.

There's plenty of dogs that don't receive any attention from their owners. I can understand the empathy you must be feeling. Dogs are man's best friend. Gotta love 'em. If I get another dog it's going to be like family to me, not just another lawn ornament. lol But some people just like having a dog around the property to create a sense of security or whatever. And that's their choice. It's their life to live, soooo.....
Just remember, lack of love and attention does not constitute abuse or neglect in the eyes of the law. Don't do anything too rash... ya gotta pick your battles. Good luck.

Yes, and as long as animals are legally considered "property"...
Yeah well my rant did make me feel a little better for now at least, I'll just have to deal with seeing the dog in it's usual sorry state on a daily basis. I'm not paying hundreds of dollars and building a system in hopes of catching something worthwhile that probably just won't happen.. what was I thinking :headsmack:
But still

That sucks. A lot of the dogs I've ever known have been so needy, clingy even. Maybe his owner got sick of that and ignores him. I don't think I've ever seen a dog that preferred to spend time alone.
Maybe you could adopt the dog from his current master. Me, I've always had cats. They're independent, they're low maintenance and they're still sweet and affectionate. Dogs are way too much work for me. All the walking, and playing with them and washing them and cleaning up after them. Dogs are always getting into some sort of messy mischief.
