i can't find any good info on this. something i found said their is a couple mushrooms in the mycena genus that are psychoactive. any clue whether or not these are, and furthermore, just out of curiosity what color is the spore print and do they glow as well?

Sporeworks sells Omphalotus nidiformis cultures, another bioluminescent species, if you'd like to try your hand at growing some glowing fungi. On sale right now too...

so why did these mushrooms develop this feature? from an evolutionary standpoint.
perhaps its just a byproduct from something else

No, they aren't psychoactive... My guess is possibly poisonous. That species of biolumenscent fungi is new to me. There are a handful of other species that glow, perhaps you could look them up.
As far as how did this feature happen in an evolutionary sense... My best guess is it might ward off potential predators or maybe the complete opposite, perhaps the light attracts insects which spread the mushroom's spores. Then again, maybe it's just a byproduct

So you really have no idea if you'll be growing them soon or not.

Heh, they're pretty easy to spot at night if you find the right mushroom. The first time I ever got wasted was while I was camping. I found some glowing mycelium in the woods on a piece of bark. I put it in my wallet so I could examine it later. Woke up the next day hungover as hell wondering why there was a piece of bark in my wallet. Then I remebered it. I did some research and I'm assuming it was Armillaria mellea, the honey mushroom. It's mycelium glows bright green at night (a phenomenon dubbed "foxfire").

I wonder if it would be possible to cultivate them, and to keep them fresh out of the substrate. So at night I could turn off the lights, and have some glowing shrooms. Think about that after eating some cubes!

I would grow them in an aquarium at the head of my bed, probably keep some bitchin amphibious life forms with it.
Something neat to look at while im making whoopee.

I'm quit sure I've got some Armillaria mellea spore prints. Also have dried honey mushrooms in my cupboard. I've heard that you should put a small block of oak in the petri along with the Armillaria mellea spores to really get them growing and glowing.
