I am a Navigational IDIOT

there was a concert tonight in philly (A Silver Mt. Zion) at the first unitarian church. probably the easiest venue to get to in philly, it's barely even in the city. you make one exit off the freeway and you're there. the cleanest part of the city too

somehow, i end up driving straight through and never see my exit. i start seeing signs for atlantic city, so of course i think well shit, i completely missed it. i get off at an exit and cannot get back to philly. i drove around camden nj for an hour on back roads, trying to find some main highway or anything that would put me back.

by this time the concert had started and it would have been such a reach for me to even get there because i cannot backtrack through philly and end up at my destination. that's just impossible for me. but it didn't matter, because i end up on I95 in hard traffic for an hour on a bridge, just looking for the pennsylvania turnpike to head home. i've already been on the road for three hours.

so i think i know where i am, and then i start seeing signs for NYC. so i turn and head S95 till i get to somewhere similar to new hope. it's not new hope though, i'm still in jersey.

i go to a wawa and someone tells me to get back on 95 and go 20 miles back the way i came to pick up the northeast extension. i do this, and in another 60 minutes i'm home.

so i drove around for 5 hours tonight, wasted about $20 in gas, $10 in tolls, and the price of the tickets - $15.

would have been a great concert. it was the opening show of their tour. and it's not like they're out often, it's a once in a lifetime to see these members together. it's the montreal postrock scene, members from godspeed you! black emperor.

when i was stuck on 95, i was stalled at the tollbooth for about five minutes and talked with the most beautiful girl i've seen in a long time. she was just gorgeous. i don't know why the hell she was working nightshift in a tollbooth. she said she'd never been over the bridge she was working on, hah. i had asked her initially how to get back to 78 and she hadn't any idea. so for five minutes i made her laugh and she made me smile and that was the highlight of my night. i know tolls pay decent, but you're going to die so young smelling fumes all day. she's too beautiful to waste. i would have sat all night in that booth with her, breathed for both of us.

so the night was 98% horrible. i needed that concert, it was kind of a big deal.

done rant / going to bed.

Yeah, I got really, really, really lost on the way back from OCNJ. I am really bad at navigating, and also indecisive. I missed my turn off at 95 and ended up almost getting to NYC, driving through Camden, Philly and Wilmington. It should have taken about 2 hours and ended up taking over 5.

i had the directions written so perfect and i had spent an hour on google maps doing that thing where you can basically walk down the street and rotate 360. i knew what the church looked like, i knew where i was going to park and how i was going to exit.

research was done, just missed the first step - always most crucial.
