seriously. im a social phobe and lately i've been getting into meditation pretty heavy. After starting deep breathing exercises i started noticing more about the way i breathe in different situations. in a social setting, i find that i'm barely even breathing. literally. the air barely gets past my throat. if i just take a few seconds and focus on breathing deep from the abdomen a few times I'm instantly more relaxed and really feel better about myself. maybe its because my brains getting more oxygen its been craving, or maybe its because i finally take my mind off myself and what people are thinking, idk. but it works like hell

I totally feel you... pretty much everything you just said goes for me as well. After i get out of a situation where I wasn't feeling very relaxed, I'll think back and be like... shit was I even breathing? I've been reminding myself more often lately

I hear ya' on this one guys.
I was gettin some pretty annoying anxiety in the past month, and breathing exercises have completly healed it. I owe a lot to them, specifically the $xx.xx a month that a 'script would've cost.

also, for me in social situations where i become nervous or anxious i tend to realize that i'm fidgety. whether it's playing with something around me or just moving my feet up and down. the next time i stay conscious and the outcome is much different.

I became aware of the same thing here a while back. Not to mention that often times I hold my breath while I eat.
It's interesting because after a while, you start to notice other people's breathing patterns and most everyone is goofy.
If you don't get the breathing right, nothing else really works the way it should.

Whenever I trip, my breathing becomes so erratic that I get scared. Erratic meaning that I more yawn than breath, and that happens every 15-20 seconds. It is a bit frightening...

Mindfulness in social situations seems to make me feel way more comfortable. This definitely works.
