found about 15-20 ft from a good sized river, on top of an edge of a cliff, in shaded forest like area underneath a piece of wood or log type object. pretty much all white when spotted and when held in hand the stem and cap turned very blue within several minutes. located in northern west virginia, a couple days after a rainfall...have that magic smell to them too...spore print is dark brown/purpleish...ne ideas? thanks! ___http://www.flickr.com/photos/21601211@N03/2475518478/ ___http://www.flickr.com/photos/21601211@N03/2474699587/ ___http://www.flickr.com/photos/21601211@N03/2474696485/

These are really cool!
Do not eat them!
The pics are not real clear but I think they are active Psilocybes. They look pretty small and may be the rare P. caerulipes.
Please try to get some better pictures of these. Use a nice digital camera and put it on macro mode. It would be great if you could get some pics of them before they are picked.
Any sign of an annulus on the stem?

Keep it healthy and it will fruit for many years too cum if all goes well. I have a weilii patch that ive been pickin at for 5 years straight and every year it keeps getting biggerand now im going to rate ya. PEace

These pics are too blurry to know for 100% sure that it is not toxic. I can't really see them, might be deadly. Don't eat them for that reason too.

he said he was tripping, i didnt eat them cus i wouldve been too paranoid the whole time if they were good or not, they were bright white when spotted, like they were very moist and fresh when he ate them, he was def tripping from what i saw, but it mustve been mild...ne thoughts?

I think that maybe you had P. ovoideocystidiata, though not enough for a (trip). There is no way to tell now, as your friend has consumed the evidence.Next time take better pictures to post.
Your friend was very foolish to consume unidentified mushrooms.

> Your friend was very foolish to consume unidentified mushrooms.
I don't think so. At the point that they have a purple-brown spore print and they bruise blue, they are safe to consume no matter what species they are.
Hopefully there are some samples left for science.
You are likely correct that it is P. ovoideocystidiata. If that is the case this would be the first time it has been seen in TN.
