~Well I am sure most people would say a filter disc is better but Tyvek works fine for most people who use it. Tyvek you buy at the hardware store is also thicker than the envelopes, by the way. ~Pixie~

tyvek and filter discs are about equal in effectiveness. poly-fill can cause problems till you get used to using it.

~Who argues that filter disks aren't as effective as tyvek??? That seems ridiculous....Tyvek is just great because it's cheap and works for most. ~Pixie~

Pixie..I hate to differ..Sure Filter Disks are expensive and may work SLIGHTLY better than traditional tyvek..But tyvek is alot better..in that it's easily obateined..FREE,disposable..and very easy to use..Also it is a great filter material that works all the time of you keep it dry. Also, there is not point in paying for some filter disks, when huge tyvek envelopes are free and can be ordered by as much as 800 envelopes fOR FREE!!

Tyvek is functional and cheap or free. However, synthetic filter disks last for many years and thousands of uses. Tyvek tends to get ripped at the edges of the lid, often resulting in only one use. It can also twist, making the lid very hard to get off later for G2G or other procedures. The time spent cutting tyvek to shape each time will easily outweigh any cost advantage. Even though I sell tyvek on my website, I still prefer filter disks.

Bottom line, any material that provides filtered gas exchange is going to work.

Yeah..but the hundreds and hundreds of free envelopes greatly outweighs any advantage that the filter disk may have due to the fact that they can be used thousands of time!

~crazyoutlaw,
I am arguing for the effectiveness and not the price/ ease of obtainability. A filter disk is more effective. ~Pixie~
