Size of jars for WBS.......

Hey, my pressure cooker is quite small and only houses 4 1/4pint jars.. This is a problem because I will be doing a WBS grow in the near future.
I was wondering, because of all the tek's ive seen, WBS has been put into bigger quart jars, but would 1/4 pint jars be sufficient?
I would obviously increase the amount of jars to match it to quart jars...
Am I overlooking any unbeneficial things here??? If anything I would think they would colonise faster than quart jars, hence being a little bit better?

you can use whatever size jar you want. the smaller the jar the more of them your going to need

You need a certain amount of space in each jar to be able to shake. Proportinally, the space in a 1/4 pint jar is much smaller than in a quart jar. So you are basically sterilizing much empty space instead of grain.
Other than that, sure you can use the smallest jar imaginable for it.

You can do it,I cant see how it would be worth the time and effort(I feel that way about allot of the things I see ppl do here though)You will have to be cooking jars forever but as long as you cook enough of them and don't mind doing it there is no reason why it should more.Wouldn't it be a million times easier to just buy a real PC and a few cases of quart jars ??

I have a REAL pc, its just snug enough to fit 4 1/2pint jars though.
I am only looking to make 1 monotub.. I didn't think I would need more than 8 (3/4 full) jars to colonize one tub?

I would look for the biggest jar you can fit in there by itself. Chances are that would hold more than 4 little jars. I don't know how many pints are in a quart but I'm guessing about 2, so your little jars can only hold a quart total. I bet you can fit a 2 quart jar in your PC. Buy 2 such jars and PC them one after the other and you'll have way more substrate for much less effort.

Quart jars are much too tall for my PC.. I can fit 4 1/2pint jars into my PC, which equals 1 quart each pressure cook.

Have you considered a plastic container instead of a glass jar?
The 2 litre jar in this picture is 15cm tall. That's like 6 inches I think.
Edit: of course, you wouldn't want an opaque jar like the one pictures, but my point is that if you consider plastic, you have a much bigger variety of sizes to choose from.

This brings up some issues of inoculation points and will the mycelium spread to the centre or not?

But you'll be shaking them. Which is the whole reason why 1/4 pint jars aren't very good.

Just make sure you dry the WBS good... really good. I, in my zealous n00b ways, didn't... and now I'm a pissy little bitch.

ya, me either. You should go check out some thrift stores and see if you can't find a 23qt for 5 bucks or something.
