it's easy

wait til they are colonized

dump em in a tray

case them

wait a few days

patch them if you want to

birth them in the fc

Do yourself a favor and spawn the rye to a substrate first, let it colonize and THEN case.

A solid layer holds quiet some water, but it's likely that your results will be a lot better when using the rye as a spawn.
MANY people had pretty bad luck with grains as a substrate, due to it's poor water keeping ability.
The more grains, the more water, but it still is a game of luck and can be easily avoided by using it for what it's supposed to be used!
