just a question lol

i have done the casing method before and it worked out great. i got an excellent yield. but is it possible to just put a layer of sterilized perlite underneath in a terrarium,break the mycelium up like you would with casing,but not add a layer of your casing mix on top? wouldnt the little guys grow out like they would using the cake method?

it may be a dumb question
but just wondering.

Perlite humidifies by bringing moisture to its surface and releasing water droplets into the air. If you cover it with a substrate it can't do that, so there's no point in using it for that purpose.
