Nano tank grow chamber

Im a 100% newb to this and Ive been trolling the sites for a few months now. I am an avid saltwater enthusiast and was wondering if its possible for me to utilize an old nano tank for a fruiting chamber. Its about 9 gallons and has actinic PC bulbs above with cooling fans. If I poor vermaculite across the bottom to form a 1 inch base and put the inoculated jar contents on top, shouldnt this be sufficiant? I cant seem to find too many people using a fishtank, and I also was planning on shaking my jars regularly to get maximum mycelium yeilds. All comments and concerns are welcome. Thanks guys and girls

I've done a ton of reading and also been on erowid alot reading as well. No one has an example or diagram of how they set up an aquarium for this. I have a styrofoam cooler I bought as well as some rubbermaid containers, I just thought the aquarium would give a nice visual along the way. I've ran across one thread that has only 2 posts and the kid says some smart ass comment about mold, I guess I don't get why you guys are acting like I'm a moron when no one explains an aquarium setup or why NOT to use one as well

i know wat tank your talking about.. in order for that to work youd probly have too inoculate some jars. let them colonize, then id suggest spawning 1:2 ratio of spawn to sterilized coco-coir. then out it into the tank but ud have to not turn on the lights and keep it dark and hot for it to colonize the coco-coir. then after than i geuss turn on the lights and try to fruit. i donno how good this will work because of the small fans in the top of the lighting setup, this might create too much FAE and lower your humidity too much.
btw, i have a 30g cube reef tank

So I just read a thread on using coco-coir to make a casing, I guess I'm just kind of confused because there's SO many ways to go about doing this, The fans in the hood are optional, I put them there, so they don't have to be plugged in. and I just read a thread that told how to use an aquarium and i couldn't understand a damn thing the person was talking about. Like I said, I've got a styrofoam cooler as well as tupperware bins, if I'm such a moron for the fishtank idea then please just tell me to stop wasting my time. I just got a 34 gallon Solana...BEAUTIFUL tank, I'm on nano-reef too.

OK so the first thing is this...you need a warm dark place to incubate (grow mycelium), Two rubbermaids will work, look up TiT (tub in tub). as fop the tank, you have to keep the humidity up between 95-100% so it will be hard if the top isnt tight. you do not want to put a layer of verm down, You might be thinking about perlite, but I woulod think that you would want more than 1 inch. There is a tank setup in the pftek for dummies (I think), try to look that up. that is a start and like someone said above, buy RR'smovie, "Let's Grow Mushrooms". You will have a much better idea of what to do after that. I have seen alot of the movies that are out and IMO, RR's is the best. You will see it advertised in the banner ads on this site or go here... http://www.mushroomvideos.com/ There you have it, You need to learn a little bit more and then start out the right way. Good luck Peace.

Thanks, I've actually seen every movie there is available and I think that's where I get confused, cause everyone does it a little different then the next person. I'm just gonna stick to my rubbermaid setup

There are alot of different rubbermaid setups out there. Which one are you planning on using? I would definatley suggest RR's movie. Forget what you saw in all the rest and watch and rewatch then watch it again.

That's exactly what I'm thinking about doing. thanks for your help. Perlite on the bottom, cakes on top, and I'll use my actinic lighting for this as well. Now the one question I had is about using tap water to dunk, I feel like the chlorine might hurt it. Any thoughts?

You'll really be fine with tap, but if you're that worried, you can buy big jugs of distilled water at a lot of places.

Ok, well I got my styrofoam cooler all set with a beautiful plexiglass top to it, Is the drip plate necessary? Ive heard people say they're not, and if I put a bubbler in there as well, will that make the drip plate more necessary? thanks guys
