"Earthlings", a documentary

Has anyone seen this film?
I am scared to watch it. It is a documentary exploring the darkest side of human treatment of animals. Apparently it is extremely graphic and disturbing.
I want to see it because I think it is important to witness the way animals are treated if you are going to be a responsible consumer of animal products, or, conversely, if you are taking an ethical stance against the use of animal products. I am an oft-lapsed vegetarian and I own a leather wallet and probably plenty of other products which are the result of animals' suffering.
You can watch the movie here if you're interested

I no longer need to see it. Ever since I watched a video of Japanese fishermen slaughtering live dolphins with hooks and knives I gained my perspective on what is happening to animals these days.
I wouldn't feel bad about owning a leather wallet though. If you already have it, then you have it. Rather focus and be aware of how you vote with your money here and now. Inspect your food and hygienic choices and see where you can make significant changes there. In the grocery market is probably where one would encounter the most animal products on a daily basis. Aim for produce.

I don't know how much more of this I can watch. It's appalling.

Then dont watch. You dont need to witness brutality to be an advocate against it.

I am watching it right now just to see. Yes it is graphic but not that bad. Probably sponsered by peta or some other humaniac organization. I love animals but come on speciesism. WTF. BUT I just started I will update in a minute.

i find the comparison between the mistreatment of animals and the holocaust rather... disrespectful? I dont know. I love animals. So far im up to the pig stuff. It's not pretty but to be honest, I didnt really ever expect that conditions were much better than that. I dont think it will really change how i feel and I wont enjoy eating meat any less, whether or not that makes me apathetic or a bad person life isnt pretty and I dont think this industry is ever going to get better (at least not much) or go away because of peta or vegetarians or vegans

the one thing i do find wrong is the kosher thing, seeing as how thousands of people buy kosher products and expect kosher products I'd say thats one that should be delivered upon.

Things like this make me want to become a vegetarian. I think its cool that i can survive without having to kill other sentient creatures. When i finally get my own place I'm strongly considering doing this.

just out of curiosity, how would an animal such as a pig/cow/hen or whatever be humanely slaughtered?

That's a good question, man. I don't know the answer, but I am damn sure that there are better ways than the ones being carried out in this film.

I watched "Meet Your Meat" and I knew I would never feel the same way about "meat" again. It was absolute terror. I was already raw vegan by this point, but it pretty much capped the whole thing off.

Yeah it does get worse and more graphic thats for sure. No I still love meat wont go vegan. Yes I hunt and could slaughter my own meat, but I am so clean compared to what they showed there, I mean I got hoses and buckets and wash everything the whole time even if its a chicken and there is little gore.... But the other stuff about the fur and leather and THE DOLPHINS...PISSED me off. Also I have long been a huge advocate of pigs. I live in Iowa and see enough pigs. I mean I love bacon and tenderloins, dont think I dont eat it. But they are smarter than dogs better at video games than monkeys and if given a clean pool and mud pit they would never Wallow in the mud. They like cleanliness. Also all the pigs we eat are drug addicts. They are addicted to that pig crave drug that gives them the munchies to make them fat. Naturally pigs would be much more atheletic and not so fat, and they would not eat like PIGS. Anyway, yes this is graphic and a lot of it is true and sad.... but I will still love my steak and eggs and pork chops and apple sauce and tyson breaded chicken breast strips w/ french fries. No matter how sick I think a lot of those things are! I still cant look past the fact a lot of it is propaganda somehow. Either PETA or HSUS or some version of the ASPCA and or some other humaniac Organization sponsered it somewhere down the line. I am sure of that. I am convinced it isnt like that in ALL the cases. I am sure a thin slice of the truth is in there but it is in its WORST possible light. IT is displayed here for embelishment and sensationalism. They did a good job of that though. I just still cant equate the animals lives and compare it to the humans lives whether in the holocaust or wherever. Also I cant even begin to try to balance our lives as earthlings on the same level as them as equal earthlings. Does this mean what I saw is good or right or cruelty is something we can overlook. No. But like I said I am sure this is what they want you to see in its worst and have you think its typical of daily operations. So basically yeah, it was sick and gross and those kind of things need more checks and balances. But overall I guess when animals, of any species or genus or kingdom even class land on the fucking moon and invent lightbulbs all while writing the next great novel. Then and MAYBE then, I will start being more concerned and compassionate and possibly quit being a speciesist.

It's just disgusting that the origin for all of this animal suffering is human interest.
We live in a fucked up age, full of fucked up people. Every single one of whom are being fucked, will be fucked, or are already fucked.

So when one animal hunts another in the most inhumane ways possible with no reason for concern regarding the animals manner of death. Or how much it was in pain. This is not also suffering when it dies this way? Even if you eliminate humans from the food chain you still dont eliminate suffering or animals being eaten and used. At best all you just eliminated is one species that is "interested" in them. So I wouldnt say this all originated from our human interest in them alone. Do you not think our ancestors evolved watching other animals eat each other AND US and learned from the whole monkey see monkey do philosophy? I mean after all, if we didnt have the animals to eat and help us hunt like the dog did and work like the bovines and equines did we wouldnt be where we are today, they even gave us shelter clothing and traveling capabilities. Not to even mention if we didnt use all the various animals for immunizations and cures and preventitives for disease that we have today. We would definitely be a lot less robust and healthy as a society, who knows what things would still plague us that we never hear about today. Polio, smallpox, measles...all kinds of different viruses and bacterias, snake bite cures from horse and elephant antibodies, ...all were cured or came from animal research. So we should be thankful and see we actually owe it to the animals and should thank the heavens that we have them. We should definitely not curse our own kind for being interested in them and blaming the use of them as something we originated. I think nature originated that concept after all, and henceforth taught us her ways which we adapted and molded to our brains and then passed on through time and cultures. Only now has it became to be what we know it as today, the world wide animal industry.
