Im sure everyone here has seen the jumbotub by Shroober, I was wondering if it would be better to follow that idea but with multiple trays instead of one giant substrate cake?

there's a good chance that even individual trays will get contaminated if any baddies get into the jumbo tub. that's the main drawback: once contamination invades it will be hard to stop it from spreading and you lose everything.

the key is to pay very close attention to every detail when following a tek.
Even missing the smallest step can sometimes lead to you losing it all.

The JumboTub concept is more of a novelty idea. The obvious risk is that if you do get a contam it is likely going to take over.
I actually thought about using multiple trays in the JumboTub at first. I have dozens of shoe box sized trays but the tub would only fit 6 at a time. with the gaps between the shoe boxes and the edge of the tub I was losing valuable substrate space. All together using the trays would have reduced the total substrate weight by over 30%. So the obvious advantage of not using trays was that I would have 30% more substrate and theoretically 30% more fruits. However, it didnt quite work out that way and I ended up getting a contam and destroying everything.
But like I said, the JumboTub is more of a novelty concept and much higher risk compared to other techniques. I think the tray idea is worth a shot though, i may even try it next time. I guess I just really wanted to see what could happen with that much substrate

i'm going to have to make a jumb tub, just to pwn you guys
what are the specs guys?
50 gal tub?
4 inch substrate?
using multiple trays? wha? why? you won't get NEARLY as much if you split it up as you would with the entire substrate fruiting togethor O_O

the jumbotub is a great idea, not something i would try out myself until i have a work area i am confident is pretty clean.
regarding the trays and loss of sub. space, you should consider something like compartmentalizing with 6-8 trash bags , so that way you can form fit them right next to each other losing minimal space, yet you can remove one sector if it happens to contaminate.
my .2
oh and shroober, i think theres a good chance i have success with the ganoderma LC. the jar i knocked up is showing good growth, much too slow for mold, yet i am uncertain because of the myc. color, it is much lighter than i am used to seeing, but then again i have never seen ganoderma myc.

I tried a jumbo tub as well reccently. I contaminated after the casing was applied. My fault? I think so

i don't see why it would contam other than it was in the grain before spawning
if bulk is properly pasteurized and mixed specially for such a large amount, i don't see why you would lose it all
for such a large amount of substrate, you're gonna need alot of wheat straw so that it doesn't compact
and you're gonna need to make sure to use a VERY strong culture, extremely rhizo

I think the jumbo tub is a great idea. The coolmist may be the solution to less contams. It actually moves the air without you opening the top. Heres an example of a jumbo tub at its bestCoolmist included

love that last sentence.....
also with the casing layer.... dont make it extremly thick just enough to cover the white and even out

i got contams AFTER full colonization but BEFORE casing. I think it was from me opening the top to peek in like a moron

you should have been able to save it if it contam'd after full colonization..
i highly doubt it was from you peeking

Thanks for the info...I have another question,
I was looking over agar's proper hydrating and pasteurization post and was wondering if I would need to keep the incubation temp down if I was going to use a sub to spawn to other than poo.
Here's the link:http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=6799417&page=0&vc=&PHPSESSID=#Post6799417
