trying to quit smoking is kicking my ass

its day 2, normally i just sleep for 3 days. this time i'm very depressed and angry, i had crazy negative dreams last night, couldn't fall asleep (never happens) and i woke up alot (never happens) only slept for 2 hours, stayed awake for 2 hours then fell asleep for another 2 hours...
all in all i can tell physically i will be a million times happier in about a month, but mentally this sucks.
its like completely artificial too, i can tell its just chemicals and not how i really feel, but its very annoying. in fact i would say its kicking my ass.

Try some meditation.
Shit has never worked for me, but some people swear by it.

The way i see it, everything's psychological. Just keep your brain stimulated/occupied in different things, anything to keep your mind off the bad moods. It'll get easier as time goes by. I've been doing it for the past week (since i'm broke and can't buy anymore weed until next week) and it's been going along great. I even cut down on the cigs using this method. Good luck

let the negative moods arise, allow them to pore out of your skin.
this is not just a figure of speech; this is what is literally happening to you.
you can test this by sitting for a half an hour inside a far infra red sauna.
when you come out and wipe your skin with a white towel, it will stain yellow.
this is the tar that you've been smoking.
your body must go through these negative states to detoxify itself.
it's a completely natural process that happens when people quit smoking cigarettes.
eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables.
let the toxins pour out, and bring the vitality in.

Tar comes out your skin? I never knew that! But yes it is hard to quit..i have a hard time quitting alcohol, but I went 3 days without a beer a few weeks back, it was no big deal..i didnt go through any withdrawals either. I go through nicotine withdrawals more..i bet i could quit smoking easier then some since I only smoke about 3-4 cigarettes a day at the most.

it's true from what i've heard about far infra red saunas..
sitting in one is supposed to really kick in the body's detoxification process, more so than steam saunas or conventional heat saunas.
so it's quite astounding, yet to me not really surprising given the amount of smoke that is inhaled through cigarettes.
kudos to you LayYouIn for your making your definite to that stuff.

Meditation, deep breathing, exercise and chewing whole licorice root really helped me quit, it's cheap and good for you.

I'm doing the same. I quit this past Sunday. I'm 37 and started smoking when I was 11. My normal amount is around 3 packs a day. This is my fourth serious attempt. I quit for a year once and 6 months twice. I've done every drug known to man and quite a few not known to most. Cigs have got to be the most evil thing there is. Even when I quit for a full year I still had the craving as strong as the first week of quiting.
I understand that is not normal but it's my burden none the less. I've quit again knowing if I fail this time that it's my last hope. It's now or never but I also know I'll never feel what I know as normal without them. Maybe it's my chemistry, maybe it's that I started so early in life. Doesn't matter at this point. It's what I am and have. It would be nice if I could smoke into old age like many of my older relatives. I can't. My lungs and heart simply are not handling it. It probably is already too late for me. If it was just me I wouldn't even bother. I have a family though and no choice as far as I've come to see it. I've got to try as hard as I can.
My point? If you can quit now then do it now. I've known people to quit heroin, alcohol, coke, meth and crack but still smoke. It's crazy that the damn things are legal while other things are not. If they were illegal who the hell that wasn't already addicted would even give a shit? Yet they ban all kinds of very pleasurable things that are not nearly as addictive. It seems that cigs need and have the government's support. So does alcohol. I'm hooked on that shit too but I have no doubt I can kick that one. The trick is I lean on it when trying to quit smoking. If I quit drinking first I'll never quit smoking but I feel if I quit smoking first I can also and perhaps even easier quit drinking. Observations of others seem to confirm that for me.
Anyway... sorry about running on like that. Good luck to ya. Mostly just wanted to say that you are not alone by any means.
