Anyone know how insurance works?

So in October last year I was helping my friend do his own oil change when the car shifted on the jack stands and crushed my finger.
I went to the doctor and luckily nothing was broken, but I did have to go back in 3 times for them to burn a hole in my finger nail in order to release pressure.
But my medical insurance is giving me the reach around.
They first denied the claim saying that it occurred at work and should be covered by workman's comp. I do work as a mechanic but my injuries didn't happen at work. So when I called them to try to sort things out they said that I would need to fill out some sort of accident report that they will mail to me, but that I would also need to provide proof that the cars insurance didnt cover my injury otherwise they again would deny my claim.
So for my question: Does the car insurance have anything to do with this claim or is my medical insurance just trying to fuck me?
Oh yeah and I checked with my friends insurance and they werent sure of what exactly I was needing. All they had was a list of what is covered on his policy, but even they said that they would deny any claim that didnt have a police report.
Any suggestions would be a big help.

That a lot of bullshit, but it's not surprising. It should be the health insurer's responsibility to determine whether you're covered by the car insurance, not you.
Initiate a claim with the car insurer and your health insurance. Give the car insurance claim number to your health insurer and vice versa. If the car insurance claim is rejected, that should suffice as proof. Be prepared to wait to be reimbursed for your medical costs.

yeah but my medical ins wants me to show proof that its NOT covered, and the car ins says that they wont process claims without a police report.
Since I dont have either I am basically asking for suggestions. Such as can my medical ins deny the claim just because it involved a car?

Yes, they'll screw you whilst taking your money and laugh about it, alas.

Thanks scout. But luckily my dr is giving me time to straighten this all out before I get slapped with the entire bill.
But just for the record insurance is crap. I am required to pay my premiums no questions, yet when I file a claim they do anything they can to avoid payment.
ITS A FUCKING CONSPIRACY!!!!!!!!!!

Why would anyone ever file a police report under the circumstances you described? Insist on filing a claim with the auto insurance. When it's denied, that should suffice as proof to your health insurer that your injury is not covered by the auto insurance.
You should review your policy and aggressively pursue your money.
I would raise hell if my insurance told me to provide proof that my injury isn't covered by other insurance. That's their responsibility. However, insurance companies and their adjusters regularly disregard the law and generally abuse their clients. Let them know you won't be a pushover.
