Haha, I never did it, but it seems like it would be counterproductive.
If the Myc has to carry the nutes from a foot below the fruits, it seems like this would waste a lot of energy for no real benefit that I can see.
Maybe that's why no one has experience, because it just might be a bad idea.

12 inches is very possible, it's about the depth of my outdoor bed, i don't think it's plausible indoors however, I have never gone above 6 inches in my monotubs indoors.. This is where I have gotten my best results with manure in a monotub, 4-5 inches does great also.
but yeah, my outdoor beds r 12 to 16 inches in places. they sprout some monsters.

you sob I don't own the internet but I can suggest things cant I? Anyway THE MUSHROOM CULTIVATOR SUGGEST A DEPT OF 12INCHES TO BE OPTIMUM AND READS THAT STUDIES SUGGEST THAT BEDS UP TO 3 FEET DEEP REVEAL THAT THE MYCELIUM TRANSPORTED NUTES FROM 3FEET DEEP. Increasing substrate dept directly increase crop size but not as efficiently as increasing surface area. I READ THE BOOK didn't you?

Bulk is better, but when you fuck up bulk, because you jumped in headfirst without knowing how to swim, you typically throw away more money than with grains or PF tek.

Manure substrates much more than 6 inches deep tend to compact too much in tray culture. Straw substrates work great up to 12 inches, but more than that and they're more likely to become anaerobic in the core. RR

That's why in outdoor beds you lay chicken wire and bar just like u would concrete.. (when using poo)

I did not know that. I have always thought of going outdoors but never to a depth more then 6 inches. Can you elaborate with a thread on the chicken wire and re-bar.
More poo equals bigger mushrooms. anaerobic stuff is a problem then though. Temps would need to be kept low and possible a thermometer in the sub if indoors to keep an eye on temps internally.
