How true is this?
    #806245 - 08/09/02 04:28 AM (21 years, 8 months ago)

Read this in a Tek, How true is it?

"It is very important that the cake is fruited in the same orientation (with the same side up) as it had when it was incubating. If it is turned over during birthing, it will try to fruit from the original "top" side of the cake, even if this side is now facing down. This is bad, because the mushrooms can?t grow correctly from the underside of the cake, and you will grow very few mushrooms."

Just keep an eye on where the shrooms are popping from and adjust the cake accordingly.

One of my elves likes to stand the cakes on edge, balanced on a 1/4 pint jar lid ring. This keeps the cake off the ground and allows for free air flow around it. He says often the first shrooms will start popping from the underneath side where it is darkest.

If the shrooms where incubated in complete darkness how would they know up from down? In all the teks I've read they say the shrooms grow towards the light. Som I would think it woundn't matter which way you put they until they are exposed to light.

yes but gravity plays a factor too... *I think*

I remember learning about it in biology class in high school...

My cakes always grow from the bottom. I believe that the moisture is highest on the bottom which attracts the little buggers.

maybe gravity pulls the moisture towards the bottom of the cakes?

yes... it is because the bottom of the cake has the most moisture because it is mostly vermiculite.... same with casings the verm has most moisture and they grow better on casings..

sorry if this doesnt make sense im really stoned...
