Welfare States?
    #8016834 - 02/13/08 09:51 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

States that voted for Bush and presumably for a smaller government  guzzling down *more* federal tax dollars than their cousins, the liberal "welfare" states.

This map reminds me of my cousin who lives in rural Illinois, who is a christian fundamentalist and a conservative who has literally told me that "welfare is for lazy black people who don't want to work." The irony being that he has three children out of wedlock, lives in government housing, eats government cheese, and is an unemployed truck driver. Whereas I live in a big east coast city, am liberal, and have received in my lifetime a total of one unemployment check from the state for the grand total of about $120.00

That's Funny.

Your cousin probably gets his 'news' from a certain prescription drug abusing, welfare recipient who hosts a Right-Wing Trash Radio Show.

That map has always blown my mind. Especially NY and the tri-state area. We pay outrageous taxes to the fed, we pay outrageous taxes to the state, we get fuck all back and yet morons keep voting Democrat. "The people is an ass."

If we got back from the feds what we "need" our state taxes wouldn't be driven deep into our asses.

You should move to a Republican state.
Then you can bitch about high taxes while gobbling up other state's tax dollars!

The point I take is that the very same states that have majorities bitching about big government and high taxes would be dead in the water if it wasn't for Big Government and High Taxes helping them remain afloat.

If it was 'sink or swim' like they keep foaming about...they'd be sunk already.

My needs are met. I have no wants.

Your needs are met. You have wants that are so great you would like to take away from others, causing their needs to no longer be met.

(I know this is a hyperbolic oversimplification, but it is a real view others might judge your behavior and values.)

http://strangemaps.wordpress.com/2007/06/10/131-us-states-renamed-for-countries-with-similar-gdps/

and I just scartch my head.
How is Georgia and Ohio making crazy GDP and still recieving taxes from other states?

You are lucky not to depend on government assistance, but mightn't it not come in handy for you or your loved ones down the road?

You are unlucky for not having once checked out the wealth of public entertainment and knowledge available for free in the United States at the Library of Congress, Smithsonian, other libraries & museums(like the Met, a really excellent one), parks, "cow pastures," gardens, forests, wilderness areas, BLM lands, NPR, PBS, C-SPAN, CIA factbook website, census website, historic churches, not to mention schools and universities and live music events that are all sponsored by the gov't with your tax money.

Of course I don't need this library computer, but I'm not hurting anybody by using it.

Sharing is caring   Vote unselfishly.

edit:  [response to post below cause I don't want to hit 100 in Politics]

Do you mean you had to exchange money on site, or when you say "I paid" was that in your taxes?  I listed the places I listed because they are free to US citizens and hoped they would help you feel better about the fruits of your hard-earned and heavily-taxed income.

Re: New Orleans, preventative measures are better--cheaper in the long run--than remedial ones (unless you're in the disaster recovery business); IMO the Army Corps of Engineers should have built a better lock system in New Orleans like the kinds we have in our wealthy white cities.

I'm not sure if you're joking when you say "Thank me," but if not that's the kind of stereotypically-arrogant attitude I associate with bitter conservatives--I pay taxes too, but I do so in good will and if my dollars go to help Katrina victims, I expect no thanks in return, and simply take satisfaction knowing I helped my brothers & sisters.
Maybe what you put into it is what you get out of it; the bad attitude you have about paying your taxes means you have a negative outlook on the benefits the gov't provides with said tax monies?

Even if I was a free-rider, you would be among the last people toward whom I would feel grateful.  Those who pay taxes thinking "I hope this helps someone less fortunate than me" are the ones who should be rewarded for their good-doing with thanks.

No, it is not luck and I generally have little problem with helping the truly unlucky.  New Orleans homeowners without insurance are not unlucky, they are t3h st00pit.  Other examples abound.

They are not free, I have seen several of them and pay for all of them.

States which have a lower percentage of residents who have owned parachute pants are guzzling down *more* federal tax dollars than their cousins, the liberal "welfare" states.

Me thinks that the distribution among states of federal money received versus payed in taxes has more to with state size, rurality, and population size than anything else.

People who start their sentences with the words: "Me thinks" should be hung by their own intestines from the tallest tree.

Your wacky map is funny and all but the ones I posted can *actually* be verified!

See, there's this thing called a 'link' that you click on with your 'mouse' and it takes you to other websites!

Websites like www.thetaxfoundation.org which is a fairly well-respected website. Much more respected than thebullshitters.org which I've never even heard of!

In fact, I'm beginning to doubt thebullshitters.org even exists!
http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=thebullshitters.org

...and the fact remains that isolated, rural, small states weep,

wail and gnash their teeth about tax dollars and the size of

government yet still are on time pickin up that welfare check every month!
