Cold war heat
    #8012060 - 02/12/08 05:18 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Why is the media not making a bigger deal about china and Russia spying on us at cold war levels, and russias planes flying low as fuck over our war ships a bunch of times?

Probably because they suspect we are doing the same thing.

I get what you are saying though. Russia in particular has been much more aggressive recently. I have read numerous stories involving their overflights which violate different countries' airspace.

Here is one incident from just last Saturday: "Japan protested to Moscow after a Russian military plane violated Japanese air space over the Izu Islands on Saturday, a Japanese Foreign Ministry official said..Kyodo news agency reported that 22 Japanese fighter jets were scrambled to deal with the intrusion."

Yeah, the Russians are getting testy again.

But we shouldn't worry, because G-Dub looked into Vladdy's eyes and saw that he was a good man.

What a load of fucking shit. Another Bush Miscalculation that I'm sure will be swept under the rug. Mark my words, in 3 years they will be blaming Barack Obama for letting Russia become a totalitarian superpower again.

Guaranteed.

So you think that Russia is going to reverse their decentralization?

Sure, its already taking place. Look at how many of the big private companies that grew in that little period of perestroika are being seized by the state now. Of course Putin isn't just coming out and saying "I'm taking this oil company for the State."

No, now it at least has a thin veneer of legitimacy. Now the heads of those companies are arrested and jailed for "Profiteering" or "Money Laundering." And the companies are not being run BY the State, but merely by Putin's henchman FOR the State.

Add the seizure of private capital to the muzzling and in some cases outright killing of the media and the attempt w/ these military maneuvers and government propaganda to stir up popular hatred of the United States again?

I think we're well on our way to 1980 again.

This incident happened last fall:

"The UK's Royal Air Force has launched fighter jets to intercept eight Russian military planes flying in airspace patrolled by Nato, UK officials say. Four RAF F3 Tornado aircraft were scrambled in response to the Russian action, the UK's defence ministry said.

The Russian planes - long-range bombers - had earlier been followed by Norwegian F16 jets.

Russia recently revived a Cold War-era practice of flying bombers on long-range patrols."

Some two years ago an armed Russian Su-27 fighter jet breached Lithuanian aerospace and crashed near a small village a little more than 100 miles from its capital.

Russian defence ministry later fumed that the pilot was being detained and said "this demonstrates yet again that the Lithuanian authorities do not want to live in a trusting and good-neighbourly atmosphere with Russia." I mean - wtf!?

If any of you guy's read books and are interested in the least in Putin's remake of Russia and it's consequences for freedom I urge you to to find and read a copy of Anna Politkovskaya's GREAT book "Putin's Russia - Life in a Failing Democracy"

Also heartily reccomended is "A Russian Diary: A Journalist's Final Account of Life, Corruption, and Death in Putin's Russia", which is Mrs. Politkoskaya's diary from the months before her assassination by Mr. Putin.

Those are both extremely powerful books. If you think Russia under Putin is bad now and you have not read either one of those books I guarantee that you have no idea how bad it really is.

If the cold war restarts its going to be a lot worse then the 80's. Underground KGB prolly has trillons stashed from selling weapons and small nukes.
