10 Reasons why us TOOL fans like them soo much.

PLEASE have an open ear when reading. I'm talking in the big scheme of things, regarding the music industry and in comparison to other bands.
1) Their collaboration with each other is, for lack of a better word, perfect. (I know this statement is opinion-based, but I just had to point it out.)
2) Their growth as a band over the last 15 years. Not to mention that they're still together when most bands from that era aren't.
3) They're NOT sell-out faggots like most bands ARE. They NEVER listen to anyone's input when making their music. They make producers look like bitches.
4) They push the ART!!
5) From a drummer and lyricist P.O.V., Danny Carey is the shit at drums and Maynard really IS a genius. (How he hears/writes those lyrics to those instrumentals is beyond me.)
6) Their live performances are the shit. (They pull off some hard shit live.)
7) Their first real album(Undertow) was awesome front to back and once they got Justin Chancellor, their new shit took off to a whole new level.
8) You can't just hear to TOOL, you have to listen to them! Feel the music and absorb it's attitude. (Try smokin a bowl, and drive around at night and blast your stereo to Eulogy or the Grudge. Preferably alone.)
9) Easily some of the best album(s) artwork, music videos, and live enhancements.
10) They're pretty much untouchable. They don't do what you want; they do what they want.
What else can a 'great band' ever want!?
I don't expect everyone to like TOOL but I can explain why a lot of people do. And I'm also trying to help people understand why I like them so much since so many other posts fail to do so. So NO hate please! I don't care how sour you are toward TOOL. This post ain't about that..........And to people who think a lot of TOOL fans worship and glorify Maynard...you're wrong. We respect him. He's just another man doomed to die like the rest of us. But he deserves his due credit...Feel free to add anything I might have missed.

i used to love tool.
now, not so much.. 10,000 days was a let-down for me, personally.
you should revise #8 to switch around hear and listen, and also not suggest that people take drugs and drive around listening to loud music. that is frowned upon in law enforcement and in the community.
tool is awesome either way.

I like Tool and appreciate their musicianship and everything, but don't understand why their die hard fans use all caps as if the band is above using lowercase letters.
NEIL YOUNG is a really good song writer. NEIL YOUNG can play piano, harmonica, and electric and acoustic guitar, among other instruments. NEIL YOUNG has always made his own music and the music NEIL YOUNG makes is the music NEIL YOUNG wants to hear.
Sorry I'm crankey

well...you had maybe 2 valid points. #8 was complete BS. You drive around at night with a bowl and most things will sound good.
That all said, I enjoy tool, but on a much lower level than many others on here do. 10,000 actually got me into them...but its not something I actively listen to.

Wow, I have never actually heard that said before. Way to go on being unique. Lateralus was the album they were born to write. I heard Undertow and didn't care much for it, loved Aenema when it came out, and was blown away by Lateralus. 10,000 Days is a decent album, but not nearly as timeless as it's predecessor. Maybe if they'd released it first, and Lateralus next, I'd have enjoyed it more.

Yep, me too. The rec center always played Vicarious when it was first released, and I really was digging it. Then, The Pot came out, and after also enjoying it, I figured I should check out the rest of their stuff. Glad I did

I think 10,000 days spoke in a more universal musical language. ...but I really wouldn't consider myself a tool fan. I do remember tossing on Lateralus and thinking it was good but not something I was going to put a lot of thought into...just didn't connect with it.
When I put on 10,000...it kind of grabbed me right away. It opened them up to a new fan base...just like infected mushroom did with their latest.
I'll give their early stuff another shot sometime, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with bands making more universal music.

Of course not. There's nothing worse than having a band try to rewrite the same album over and over. There are always those bands wind up "going back to their roots," i.e. trying to sound like they used to sound.... It's really a good thing Tool isn't one of those. I was mainly saying if you like 10,000 Days, and you haven't given Lateralus a listen, you're missing out on a (big) part of what makes Tool so great.
I used to love them, and admittedly I don't listen to them much anymore, but I respect their progression. I just think Lateralus owns the shit out of everything they've ever done.

I completely agree. I also hate when people say "Oh, you don't like them because you don't smoke anymore" or "Listen to them while you're high, that's when they're good." Yeah, music sounds good when you're high or tripping, but it should sound good sober too.
That said, listening to Lateralus once with my friend in his car while we were parked at a park at night and high as sin was the first time I've ever heard music high and been like "Wow, this is so different." Part of it is I think Tool's music definitely has a different... aspect maybe? when you're high. This isn't exclusive to Tool, they just happened to be the first band I had heard like that while high. I'm sure a bigger part of it had to do with how ridiculously high we were.

It sounds the same sober to me... Lemme clarify, I didn't mean that you have to be high or what not. I'm just giving an example of the ambiance you should try to 'get to know' Tool. For those that haven't discovered it yet and might want to, this is a good solution. I've 'converted' a few people before in this manner.

I like TOOL.... but I despise diehard TOOLs.
it is kind of like someone thinking sublime is the shit and they have no idea who yellowman is.
I have already had a heated debate about it on here before, but if you are a tool fan, and you cant name one king crimson song... kill yourself. KC is their predecessor, and probably their number one influence. granted they work together and intermingle now, but Tools sound has always, IMO, been a more consumable version of King Crimson. Maynard of course makes the biggest difference since Adrian Belew is a rather shitty singer, but KC were the initial inventors of industrial prog that weaved 5/4s on top of 4/4s and such.
Just listen to Red or Thrak by KC and you will retroactively feel a little loss of awe for tool's genius.
