The Library of Congress has a Flickr account

So yeah, I was browsing around and I discovered that the LOC has opened up a flickr account revealing two large, comprehensive collections of just over 3,000 photos: 1930s and 40s In Color and News in the 1910s.

These are great for historical purposes, but the kind of context that the pictures provide is impressive. Lots of shots of how things were done, people hanging out and doing their thing in their time.

I especially love seeing the technology. Its so much simpler, leaps and bounds simpler compared to the precision engineering of today. Looking at it, there's a much bigger sense of how much has been done and how deeply each aspect has been explored and mastered. Anyway, check it out.

Q: Exactly. For that one fraction of a second, you were open to options you'd never considered. That's the exploration that awaits you...not mapping stars and studying nebulae... but charting the unknowable possibilities of existence.

neat. I love seeing the past in real color.

"To do right is to know what you want. Now when you are dissatisfied with yourself it's because you are after something you don't really want. What objects are you proposing to yourself? Are they the objects you really value? If they are not, you are cheating yourself. I don't meant that if you chose to pursue the objects you most value, you will attain them; of course not. Your experience will tell you that. But success in getting after much labor what you really don't care for is the bitterest and most ridiculous failure." -George Santayana
