I'm not sure about the strains and I'm not using any tek. Ive basically grown my own. some of them u can tell they are okay. but others are just opening way too soon and some have white just under the head encircling it.

You had to have used some "tek". Be it cakes, casing or what. We need to know how you are growing them in order to help you out a bit. How are you keeping humidity? What did you spawn from? How wet was your substrate? Did you case? If cakes, did you dunk if so, how long? Info for info.

You shouldnt sit the cake directly on the perlite, is there visible water drops on the walls when you leave it chilling for a bit?

Don't worry, the veil is not splitting before the cap matures. Here some other Cambodians. They all seem to have that scaley look.
Now, you'll notice in the pic that one cap actually is broken, but I think I accidentally did that myself.

says who?
verm is a non nutritious spongey mineral. it wont contam which is why most people use it out of the bag... althought i would still put a jar lid or something underneath.

Are you implying that since vermiculite is non nutritive that spores of any kind couldn't land on it and stay there dormant until something like, "who knows" tap water or some other mineral enriched moisture came in contact with it Thus providing the neccessary growing environment for it? Just asking.

If the same myceliem was on something, whatever it is, wouldn't the spores still be able to land on the perlite and when misted still have the right conditions to germinate and grow causing them to in turn release more spores? Possibly still infecting your grow?
I use LECA and every chance I get, I sterilize it. Just pop it in to the PC. Don't know about perlite..look it up.

Sorry, if I kind of got off topic. Me personally, wouldn't pour verm directly on perlite. Verm is only going to absorb moisture from the perlite. Also, In my experience, what you are seeing is lack of humidity and Fresh Air Exchange. Reason: Perlite will hold the water content needed to produce the humidity required, but with out air flow moving over the perlite Humidity will not be induced. Solve the Fresh Air Exchange problem and the humidity will snap into place. Either way, you will see improved results.
