unidentified mushroom
    #787433 - 07/31/02 12:26 AM (21 years, 7 months ago)

I have these coming up in mass nearby my house on a stretch of lwan.
Any ideas???

I`ve been walking past them everyday for the last month and I never thought they were anything of value.
They don`t bruise.
They have a dark black brint.

Meaning what??
Don`t touch?
I`ve done some searching on other Psathyrella strains and there are 2 active strains mentioned on Lyceaum.
I`m reckoning they aren`t edible.

There are no active Psathyrella mushrooms. This was a case of false positive.

I think Mr Mushrooms has it correct. Psathyrella looks like a good guess on this one. Unfortunately, Psathyrellas are generally pretty tough to ID to species. Psathyrella candolleana is a reasonable guess for species here, but mostly because it's so common. To quote David Arora, "few fleshy fungi have less to offer the average mushroom hunter - not to mention the average human being - than the Psathyrellas."

Happy mushrooming!

Yup Psathyrella is my guess as well, and that is a very good quote...they are as useless as two tits on a bull..except of course for breaking down organic matter.

RIP Matt, your friendship and your contributions to the world of fungi will be missed. Unfortunately we never got to hunt together.

They are interesting actually. I read somewhere that Psathyrella hydrophila contains a compund that lowers blood sugar level and could be used in medicine.
