Still air box 'don'ts'

Very newb moment I had tonight. My luck with fire and explosives has not improved.
So I received some cultivating concepts spawn bags and decided to inoculate them with P.E. in my glove box
-Washed hand -lysoled prosthetic -lysol and oust in area and still air box -applied latex glove -entered box
I began assembling my syringe and prepped the inoculation site and swabbed the needle with alcohol....
Surely I said to myself, the oust has dissipated as my arm holes are not cut to fit tight and are loosely covered in vinyl. i took my trusty bic and attempted to flame the syringe...
Bad idea. LOL. I think I'll stick with solely alcohol/lysol/oust, as it clearly didn't dissipate through my work.

wow a lot of people on the shroomery have seen that movie a scanner darkly.
what i do is lysol bomb the shit out of the box, then lysol the area around a little. i have a friend flame the syringe for me and while he's doing that open up an alcohol pad. then while its still red hot, he opens the lid and hands me the syringe, i swab the site, cool the syringe, rock the bags world, then we cuddle a little before i go grab a few brewskies with the guys.
smooth as clockwork my friend...

Thanks, I'll employ my wife or dog next time I'm doing box work.
I read A Scanner Darkly 10 years ago. I'm a huge P.K.D. fan and was just thrilled that hollywood made an accurate (moreso than others) interpretation of his work.
I've even got a blue flower tattooed on my ankle... How sweet, right?
Eyebrows, check.
Arm hair? Gone.

I was so glad I wasn't tripping when I read that crasher. I would probably be gasping for air and rolling around on the floor in laughter! Yup, that was a Newb moment

Have you watched RR videos lets grow mushrooms.
If you watch them using a glovebox, notice how there alcohol lamp its outside the fruiting chamber.
I never use alcohol products to clean glovebox. Soap and water is just fine and once i get everything in that i need a quick spray with some bleach, not enough to be explosive.
Glove boxes work on the principle of still air, not being contaminant free

It was a flash burn.
I haven't watched the video, and probably won't anytime soon. Not to be an ass, but I was posting it lightheartedly, I didn't expect anyone telling me why what happened...happened.

What i do, is flame sterilize the needle outside the box, and wrap it in an alcohol swab. I put it in the box, and then spray my box with lysol. I usually give it another good spray when the top is on my box. I just like to be sure though. Its good to have as sterile air as possible, in addition to the still air. It's good practice for agar work.

1. Your hands are always shedding bacteria so washing your hands with ANTI-BACTERIAL SOAP (hands, arms) is ideal. 2. Lysol is overly expensive and a compressed Rubbing Alcohol surface cleaner, and causes mutants. Ousts is for soccer moms who want to come home to a nice smelling home. It's no where near good as Ozium. Better off using OZIUM. Ozium is an air sanitizer, It drops and kills airborne particles, as well as used in Hospitals during surgery, lab work. 3. When you put the gloves on wipe your gloves with Alchol
Using tyvek sleeves is also ideal for still boxes

gloves are always a nice added bonus when working with a glovebox, along with tyvek sleaves, however that could have been quite nasty with an exploding glovebox

Be more careful, lest you blow off your remaining hand! I'd imagine you'd have a hell of a time trying to inoculate anything without it. Hell, I can't even imagine how much more difficult it has to be with a prosthesis. Ah, well, I'm spoiled by having all my limbs and hopefully I'll stay that way.
Also, Scanner is definitely one of my favorite movies ever.

Yes, after making my still air box, monotub, TiT, LC's, WBS Jars, and doing inoculation 1 handed:
I recommend avoiding hand loss at all costs.
Take care all!

My biology teacher was one handed (born that way, thalidomide ) and he rolled cigs and joints one handed and had these little nubbins (instead of fingers) on his other arm (that ended at the elbow) that he used as pokeys. He was really skilled at rolling too, nice even cigs.
But then my Biology teachers were very crazy. My other one (best friends with the previous one) bred snakes to eat them

You're not missing anything. Scanner was one of the crappiest movies I've seen in a long time. I wish I could have gotten my rental money back. I should have known better since it was a box office flop.
The cast is good, but other than that it sucked in every respect.
