Talk is cheap.

If there's one thing I've learned it's that talk is cheap.
You can sit here trying to think up some grand solution to the problem of life for as long as you wish; all day, all year, all your life, and that's ok. We all have questions, we all have these uncertainties and desires and what have you, and we want to figure it out! We realize that maybe there is something more to life than we thought, some other way to do this, and we want to know what it is.
But at some point, I think, at least for me, talk has to be reflected in action. It becomes apparent that no matter how much we sit here and speculate about the world, we don't really know any more about it than we did in the first place. We keep spinning around in our thoughts about everything, trying to figure it all out from our dualistic, delusional, limited viewpoints.
Talk is valuable in so far as it inspires action. Talk is valuable because communication can teach us about our world, about many different things. But at some point, I think, we need to realize that this kind of thinking, talking, philosophizing, has its limits. If we really want to step beyond our limitations, really understand who we are and what is going on, we have to look deeply into our experience, and see what it is beyond our descriptions about it, beyond our strategies and hopes and perspectives and opinions.
What is really going on here?

I don't know exactly what you mean.
But it means that yes, some kind of discipline is probably a good idea, if only to step outside of our "old nest of ideas".
Some discipline of opening to this moment of experience, beyond our preconceptions about it. Opening beyond our habitual tendencies to narrow and focus attention and fantasize about life. Opening to the whole moment, as it presents itself.
This means a discipline which perhaps starts heavy handedly, but hopefully eventually turns out to be effortless effort, or the moment exerting itself.

To a certain extent I would say that talk--which inspires and produces thought--IS action.

You forgot to take to account the fact that some people are all action without any previous thought
