A trip to Marin
    #7789193 - 12/22/07 02:08 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

So i finally made it to Marin county for a day of hunting. Problem is, there wasn't much. I still see people posting the actives they find all over the bay on the sticky. I walked through some redwoods for a couple hours. Not much. One or two amanitas. I drove around checking out multiple woodchip beds( no expert but i beleive they were alder chips), and found nothing but a few psathyrellas. Checked out the College of Marin campus too.I read articles of how Psilocybe cyanascens is "taking over the bay area" Yet can't find any... Any ideas why?

Don't spend much time around the bay, but is it a race to find actives, do alot of people know where they are and already cleaned them out, perhaps? I'm always seeing posts about people finding Cyans and fibs around. And people say Amanita muscaria is EVERYWHERE.Yet i didn't find any.

I'll upload pics of my finds a little later.

Any suggestions?

Kind of hard to get out there but i plan to have at least a few more trips. Any suggestions? I hear Marin is a pretty damn good place to hunt but who knows? Not asking for directions to anyones personal patch just a point in the right direction. Should i avoid the redwood forresty areas and stick to woodchip beds?

Stick to the woodchip beds and watch for Stropharia aurantiaca, the most reliable indicator species.

Psathyrellas in wood chip beds are a decent sign too, it means that things are fruiting.

I looked in a ton of wood chips in mountain view yesterday, found one Psathyrella. I did find some Stropharia aurantiaca in the wood chip beds around one of the yahoo buildings.

Alan, is it just me or are there a lot fewer mushrooms down here compared to SF? I was out driving around today to(hopefully) find a patch of subbs, I ended up finding no mushrooms of any kind.

rhandy,
Stay out of the forest. You will never finds cyans there.
Go to ggp. You will find cyans if you look in the grass that is between 4-12 inches tall. Part the grass, they will be hiding in there

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.
