Colonizing Jars
    #7737272 - 12/09/07 04:15 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

My jars have been colonizing for about 14-15 days at 82-86 degrees farenhieght and at humidity 65- sometimes 90 % and i was wondering if they should be done by now or if there is anything i can do to help it along, i took the tinfoil off of the jars on day 3 or 4 should i put them back on? anything? they are white but they are not fully colonized, these are cambodian* shrooms, how long should they take?

i dont think the humidity matters..

if the bottoms aren't colonizing, flip the jars and knock the cake down (assuming you are making cakes) and leave it upside down..

obviously you'll want to have the lids on when you do this..

other than that you should be good..

Flip the jars to allow CO2 to fall out the bottom. Don't worry about humidity, they're sealed after all, right? As far as how long they should take...well, until they're done or they visibly contaminate or start to dry out. Patience is the key to every aspect of this hobby.

Peace.

these jars are not sealed, they have 4 holes on the lid allowing for gas exchange

He doesn't mean completely sealed. He ment small holes for air exchange but the amount of mosture lost is very little because the air exchange is very little. It is not in the open were dry would suck the moisture out of the cake. This should of been assumed when he said to turn it upside down to dump out the co2, but you know when you assume:) Co2 is heavier than normal air so when you turn it upside down all the co2 dumps out through those small holes allowing the myc. To grow again untill it builds up again.
