John Lennon - R.I.P.
    #7732197 - 12/08/07 08:05 AM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Today is the 27th anniversary of John Lennon's death.  Hard to believe that it's been that long.

John Lennon once said everything.

:hippie:

“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

It's a shame that his voice was robbed from us. He had the influence to be a catalyst for change in this country and had he lived, he may have helped us make some changes that we were never able to make up until this point. Anyway, I just wanted to give a shout out to John today.

Not intending to disrespect the man's memory but I don't get why everybody loves John Lennon so much.

Maybe I'm just too young, and can't appreciate how great the 60's was

I can understand being too young to appreciate 60's and 70's music but Lennon was great because of his message, not just because of his music. He's cool even if you don't like his music.

He had as much influence over a generation as anyone ever did and instead of telling these people to drink Pepsi or to buy a Chevrolet, he endorsed love, peace, freedom and revolution. He was an American hero and I will always love him.

Welcome evermore to gods and men is the self-helping man.  For him all doors are flung wide: him all tongues greet, all honors crown, all eyes follow with desire.  Our love goes out to him and embraces him, because he did not need it.

How come its always the cool, peaceful people who are killed?

Lennon, Dr. King, Bobby Kennedy and Gandhi.

Why is it so dangerous to be for peace?

Where did all the good people go?

It's dangerous to be for peace because we're all lost in the illusion of separation. We've forgotten that our true nature is love. Anyone who tries to remind us of that is stripping away our current identity, which is painful to us. So we kill those people.

i actually went to the hotel where he was killed, the dakota, in new york.

I have to say, it had a weird feeling about it.

there is a little memorial made out of tile located at the entrance to the hotel, but as the hotel was bought out and now is private upscale housing they wont let you near it :frown:

cant even bribe the doorman to let you take a picture

PEACE

"in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption"

"People do it every day, they talk to themselves ... they see themselves as they'd like to be, they don't have the courage you have, to just run with it."
