Is this an abort?

Normal, healthy-looking shroom [except for scissor-wounds from when I was cutting up the spawn bag]:
Strange rotting shroom:
Is the latter an abort? Should I pick then dry it, or pick then ingest, or pick and toss?

depends if you are going to eat them now or later. pick them and dry as necessary..
..its always fun to eat them fresh.
why the fuck is your cake so blue? what did you do to it? spray paint it?
looks almost like it's fully covered in mold or something.. wtf
and why is your cake sitting on vermiculite?
you are supposed to humidify with perlite.. but set it on some foil or something instead of straight on there..

Pic #1 - Not an abort. Good coloring. It should continue to grow.
Pic #2 - It's an abort. Severe bluing with a darkened cap. Pick now.
Your cake is bluing due to lack of moisture. Your fruits are cracking due to lack of relative humidity.
They will continue to abort if these problems are not resolved.

Cake is blue because it's dehydrated and because I've been handling it fairly roughly. It's sitting on vermiculite because I didn't have any perlite and needed to put some moisture into it. There is no blue mold.

I've been focusing too much on FAE. I'm going to put glad wrap over the top of the tub and I just poured a whole tonne of water onto it. There is enough vermiculite to absorb the water that I'm not worried about contams.

I picked the abort [I was surprised at how easily it came off, my cake must be very dry]. Chucked it in the freezer wrapped inside baking paper - I'll try eating it on wednesday night, not for any effects [I know I won't get any from such a small amount] but to get used to the taste, plus I can't do anything else with it since the rest of the cake is pretty far away from being picked.

whoa. you just dumped water in there?? i dont think that will help...maybe if you didnt over do it. but you dont want too much water in there. maybe go buy some perlite. rinse it and put it in there...

I'm being a little bit colloquial. I slowly poured water onto the top of the cake [this is a fucking big cake, massive spawnbag size] and watched it absorb. Once it started running off I stopped.

Get some perlite, you cant really substutite it. Verm is like a sponge and cans oak up water.
Perlite has lots of nooks n crannys (lots of surface area) to allow water to evaporate into the air.
The first pic is not healthy, the cap is split in 2 places, this is because of low humidity.
Your cake probably dehydrated bacuse of low humidity aswell. Also without high enough humidity chances are the shrooms wont grow very big.
Oh and using h202, not needed, h202 is only helpfull against cobweb.

After taking note of your advice re: humidity and moisture, I upped the ante and near-drowned it in water, then locked it all in with glad wrap. Sorry about the shitty image quality, but it should get the point across that things have pretty much exploded in size and health.
[cigarette for size comparison.. this is no small cake]
I'm tempted to put the whole cake in a shallow plate of water just to provide extra moisture in the cake, but I'm not sure if that'd be overkill or just too much of a slap in the face of reasonable sterility. So far I have no standing water - it's all in the cake, condensation, or in the vermiculite.

I'm going to buy perlite for the next batch. Right now it's doing alright and I'm not going to risk bruising it more just because people jerk off about how awesome perlite is.
