poppy grower question

My poppies are about a month or so old. I find that they shoot up with a long stem and then lay down. This is my first grow, so i'm not sure if this is normal. Do poppie seedlings usually lay down as such? Would think they would grow straight up. They are getting enough sun to do so, if they do.

Hrm I wonder how far along in growth your poppies are. I think I know what you mean, like when the seedlings sprout and maybe have one pair of true leaves and the whole plant just flops around not standing straight up. Pretty normal and they'll eventually get stronger and lean towards the light. Here's a couple pictures of poppy plants. One picture is the outdoor poppy plants and one is of an indoor one. They were planted at the same time and the indoor one was transplanted from outside. Pictures are maybe a week old.

I have never had a poppy plant that didn't lay down for a good bit of time during it's growth. As a friend once suggested, young poppies can't handle all that morphine and just pass out and lie down...as for a real explanation, I don't know.

HOWEVER, using light that reduces "stretching" and using a fan to gently blow across the plant like a gentle breeze help. The breeze encourages the poppy to develop a strong stem...don't blow on it so hard that leaves start tearing off though.
