Farmers
    #766559 - 07/22/02 05:09 AM (21 years, 7 months ago)

It seems that a lot of people just walk onto farmlands without realizing that their presence is going to upset whoever is in charge of said farmlands. Farmers aren't used to seeing people walking out in their fields; they don't know who you are or why you're there, which is why they get upset and you have to run away.

Farmers are usually pretty good people. If you want to hunt for mushrooms in a farmer's field, make sure you get permission first. It's not that hard. You just say "Excuse me, I was wondering if you would mind if I hunted for mushrooms in your field."

If it makes you feel better, you can say you're a mycology student or that it's for a science project or something. Many farmers don't even know what magic mushrooms are. As long as you're not tearing their fence down, or chasing their cows or whatever they could care less if you want to pick fungus.

Happy hunting.

Good post! I completely agree with you on this one...
Simply asking the farmer can save you SO much hassle in the long run!

Damn, you are such a punk and I am such a rebel

as a farmer I can tell you, I'm used to seeing tresspassers,I'm also used to
holding them at gunpoint until the cops arrive, I wouldnt be this way towards
them if it were not for the fact that I've had livestock shot and 5 burglaries
in a very short period of time, that all stopped when I held 5 people at the
end of my drive until the cops arrived to sort things out and recently unloaded
my .45 at some people making a bee line for my storage building

I've given people ermission to hunt shrooms and critters on my land, one hunter
learned the penalty for coming uninvited while I wasnt home, he found a spike
strip I left just laying about in the deep grass   he had to repair my fence to get his 4 wheeler back with the 4 flat tires.

mizike, most farmers are honorable people, if they give you permission to do
something, they dont pull crazy shit as soon as your out of sight unless
you're doing something you shouldnt be like molesting their livestock

and on a side note, farmers usualy know exactly what you're looking for, half of them have tried shrooms and the rest are well aware of what they are

it's not shroomers we're after, it's the jackasses running around the woods with
guns shooting at anything that moves, people hunting out of season or on our land
I had some livestock killed a couple of years ago on 2 seperate occasions, the
people that did it knew exactly what the were shooting at because all three were
shot through the coroted artery, a clean fast kill.

believe me when I say it's for your safety, the cops in my town already know me
to be a shooter and they have warned a lot of people as have most people on my
street, again, as long as I know you're out there you'd have nothing to worry
about and most other farmers feel the same way, if you meet them they know you
arent out to do harm

Thanks for stoppin in, Pris. and clarifying that for us. I'm hittin this thread cuz I like to try to voice the same opinion. I really feel bad for livestock owners. Farmers are down to earth people, more so than the everyday variety you see at waly-world and such. This is because they've worked hard and are in touch with their surroundings, so they're generally easy to talk to. But there's that few that have had enough of people just running over their property like nobodie's business. Every fence around here that holds livestock has gaping holes in it, I know I'd be mad :mad2:
I became 100% aware of this one Saturday morning when I arrived at a field I had permission to hunt. I did no hunting that day, instead I arrived in time to help the man and two companions round up three cows that were loose. Gawd, I felt so ashamed for other peoples behavior, and I just felt like everytime he looked at me, it was like, fuck! I know he didn't hold me responsible because I'm a hunter, but I just felt so bad for him :nonono:

:peace:

you did the right thing in helping the guy with the cows, it's things like that
that get you the respect from him and his neighbors, even some from people here
in Ga, Farmers are normal very friendly, just letting them know that there's a
problem with the fence line or that you saw a couple guys tresspassing lets him
know that you're looking out for him, nothing earns his respect quicker than being
a good neighbor, out here that respect goes a long way.

I've lived in this town for about 3 years now and there isnt anyone that doesnt
know me by name, I've only met a couple dozen of them but because of my
willingness to help and my honesty people make it a point to talk to me
