PF for simple minds...
    #765818 - 07/21/02 07:16 PM (21 years, 8 months ago)

I noticed the simple minds tek contains less than half of the amount of BRF than the standard PF Tek.

How does that affect yeild? Would 1 dry Oz. be normal for 20 half pint cakes?

If you're doing 20 cakes, why not just do cased bulk substrate? That'll certainly improve your yields...

(Sorry that I can't answer your other question).

Could you please go to the PF website, look at the amounts used there again, and then post the comparison again? Thank you!

Good question, Im not exactly sure on the less yielding part, with cakes, Im sure Anno could shed some light on that one for you

As for a dry quanity like that you will most likely want to try some bulk substrate like psyconaut said or at least some casings. Sorry not much help, but good luck!

b]PF:

1/8 cup of brown rice powder (Health food stores and co-ops)
1/2 - 2/3 cup of horticultural vermiculite (medium grade) (garden centers and hardware)
40-45 cc's (milliliters) of water or (a little less than 1/4 cup) (1&1/2 ounces) (3 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon)

Maximum fruiting formula:
1/4 cup of brown rice powder
1/2 cup of vermiculite
60 cc's water

Simple Minds:

For one 1/2 pint jar(236 ml) you will need:
=> 140 ml vermiculite
=> 40 ml brown rice flour
=> some vermiculite to fill the jar to the top (app. 20 ml)
=> water

OK, if I got my numbers right 40 ML BRF is nearly a 1/4 cup, which is closer to the "Maximum fruiting formula".

I wonder if I screwed that up, because when I was making it, I was thinking I was using less BRF than PF.

I'm trying to remember what I did.

I think I mixed one scoop of BRF to three of vermiculite. Each batch was enough for 6 cakes with 1/2 to 3/4 inch vermiculite on the top.

It's a good thing I've been out of weed for the last 2 months, or I would never have remembered that.

Those cakes are already on their way out the door. I have 11 left. 3 were done with WakingUp Late's "dry tek".

The air here is full of mold and mildew. I'm currently putting together a bulk plan. You may have read in an earlier thread that I am experimenting with worm castings.

I chucked part of a cake in with some castings to see what would happen. Not much so far.

PF classic;1/8cp = 30 ml
PF-Tek for Simple Minds: 40 ml
PF maximum formula: 60 ml

As you see the amount used is inbetween, closer to the standard formula.

I found that this amount gives the optimum water content of the jars, if you saturate the vermiculite to the field capacity first like described in the PF-Tek for Simple Minds.

If you use more or less BRF, then you would have to adjust the water content, and this would make the tek less foolproof.

My 3 to 1 mix did OK, No contams at birth, took about 2-3 weeks for 100% at usually around 84 degrees.

I let them sit for about another week after 100%. I cold shocked one in the fridge, and some ice formed on the lid, but I don't believe the cake was harmed. I exposed it to light, and was going to do invitro on it, but the first shrooms stopped growing at around 1 inch.

So I birthed it, and it fruited about a dry gram.

A few days later I started exposing the rest of the cakes to light, and birthed them as pins occured. After the first few I just birthed the whole lot.

I'm pretty sure I screwed up by just picking shrooms as the veil broke instead of doing the whole cake at one time. I lost track of what had been partially picked, and I think some of them rotted on the cake. I cleaned them off with a knife, but I started getting some kind of sudden death syndrome. fruits would start out ok, then turn into a blue/black goop within a matter of hours.

Shrooms that looked good one night, were slime the next morning.

I started tossing cakes that were showing "sudden death". About that time I started seing green and grey spots on some cakes. One of these I used in my worm castings experiment.

I just had one cake with sudden death fruit a couple of decent siamese twins that yeilded about 1g. dry and healthy as a horse.

"PF for simple minds = less yeild?"

Nope!

Dunk before your first flush for maximum yeilds. I like the cold-shock dunk treatment on PF cakes (when I dont case) which is simplying filling the jar with tap water and storing in the fridge for 12hrs. Good luck!

Yeah, I was going to dunk some and compare the differences, but I got lazy and double ended all of them.

I also didn't remove the origional vermiculite from the cakes when I birthed. I'm wondering if that contributed to the problem(s).

If anybody's wondering, it was PF Classic.

I usually just scrape any loose vermiculite and leave the rest of the layer on. A lot of mushrooms seem to pop up from there!

It's funny. All 3 of my dry tek jars colonized the entire vermiculite layer in the jar.
