what to do about contamination?
    #7614112 - 11/09/07 08:33 AM (16 years, 5 months ago)

I've started cultivating, and am amazed how quickly the mycelium has spread. I think that one of the containers I'm using is contaminated. What can be done about it (if anything)? I decided to put a small amount of salt on the mould, in the hope that it will dry and then kill it. I don't really think it is gonna work, but I thought that I might as well try it and then just wait a couple of days to see what happens. Would it be best just to throw the substrate away now, rather than wait?

If you know it's contaminated without doubt toss it.

depends on the contaminant. If you have cobweb mould, then spray 3% peroxide directly onto the area, and reapply once a day for 3 days.
If it is any other type of mould or bacterial contaminant, throw it out now before it sporulates, jeopardizing future projects.
