Soul as parasite
    #7559678 - 10/25/07 03:20 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

According to popular mythology, a soul swoops into our body upon birth and then leaves at the point of death.

It sounds like an opportunistic entity only concerned with it's own well-being, i.e. a parasite.

My sole is hard rubber, no skid, and waterproof. Very useful indeed, unfortunately it wears out and has to be replaced. As I am skitzo I have a pair of them. I hope this response helps you on your journey.

But the soul exists before it enters the body, right?

So it doesn't need the body to exist, it simply uses it.

But it appears that yes, the soul certainly does use the body, but regardless, in the words of dirtworshipper,

AS they come from a higher plane to a lower plane with a slight 'whooshing' noise, I think swoop is an apt verb.

So sez Shwoopy.

I thought(believe) the soul is created out of consciousness. which is why abortion before the second trimester is acceptable, tho still frowned upon, to the catholic church. and why there is talk of things like ghosts in the machine and machines with souls (i.e. conscious 'artificial' intelligence).

I've never read any mythology where the soul 'swoops into our body upon birth'

but in the event that the soul is real or does exist, I'd like to think along these lines:

Quote:

But it appears that yes, the soul certainly does use the body

For the soul to be a parasite would not the body have to be a living thing in order to be "parasited" upon? From your own words it would seem that the body is nothing more than a thing in which souls swoop down upon to take a ride, much like we hop on a bicycle and push the pedals with our feet to take 'it' for a ride

That is very similar to one of Castaneda's more far out ideas. He called it the foreign installation. He claimed that it was a parasite that infected early man, and was carried through the species. It was a spiritual entity that functioned in the way that you described.

A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

You don't believe? Well, I refuse to make any decision at all without cross referencing at least several hundred Castaneda quotes.

Each soul is only allowed one swoop (and they sometimes miss). The baby in your sig was born without a soul, thus it reveals it's true human nature.

I like to think of channeling certain energies rather than parasites.
It doesn't really have an end or beginning, ya know??
