Nerovision.

Get it on Demonoid if you have an account. It will convert and burn just about any video file into dvd movies.

you also might want to check to see if your dvd player can play avi files. If you bought it somewhat recently, then it probably can. mine does, and i only paid $40 for it. if it can, then just burn the avi files on there as a data dvd.

if not, then you can get DVDsanta. i'm pretty sure it's got like an unlimited free trial or something. pretty user friendly, easy to use.

My DVD player plays .avi (the DivX family of formats)

Yours might too. Many DVD players are DivX compatible. And yes, a whole movie compressed to 700 MB is quite watchable!

i routinely burn avi vids straight onto dvds. i can fit the full seasons of cartoons on one DVD per season. real shows with actors generally take two DVDs per season. it's pretty sweet. i like my cheap dvd player.

Yup it's heaven.

A DVD can hold six movies compressed to CD-sized DivX and three movies at high quality DivX.
I see no reason for "DVD" format. Why fit 1 hour on a disk if you can easily fit 5 hours on it with virtually the same quality?

With Nerovision I generally get three movies per dvd in .vob format that can be played on any dvd player. I have one that plays .avi files as well, but other people that I know do not have one that plays .avi files so I just put a few per disc in .vob files. The program knocks the quality down to fit, and the quality is still very good.

I fantasize about having all the video footage I want in laserdisc quality with PCM sound.
