I have friends with a bunch of these growing in their yard. It was dark and I didn't pay good attention to the trees in the yard.

Cap is brown, slightly viscid when wet (not like a slippery jack, tho),
convex.
Pores whitish in the younger specimens, browner in the older ones.
No obvious bruising.
Still working on a spore print.

Its leccinium, I'm pretty convinced its the brown-birch-scaber-stalk. Grows with birch (obviously). Did it change color when you cut it?

If I'm right, its edible... we collect these and they aren't great but do make a good addition to mushroom dishes. The flavor improves with drying.

Making me hungry!

The stalk turned slightly brown after cutting.
The spore print is brown.
I will find out what kind of trees they are, but from MDM I was thinking birch bolete as well.

i second that is a leccinun it look as a good edible since all that the ones that don´t taste bitter or salty are good to eat, some bruise blue cyano and then black , but have bitter taste sometimes, so all leccinun are edible unless, the taste is so bad to eat then ...

As the others said, that's a Leccinum.

There is some suspicion of an unknown poisonous Leccinum species in North America, but yours doesn't resemble the suspects. As with all mushrooms, some people have reactions to them, so only eat a tiny amount the first evening. If you don't get sick overnight, then you're OK to eat that kind.

Be very sure to cook it completely before you eat any. Leccinums are definitely poisonous if raw or undercooked. If you have any doubt if your mushroom is completely cooked, cook it more until you have no doubts at all.

Happy mushrooming!
